Just jacked in Virgin Media after 20 years

In one form or another , Cambridge Cable then NTL and finally Virgin.
Had enough of the piss poor internet speeds 200mb line and lucky to see 4mb in the evening or anytime you actually needed to use it.

So question is , other than BT or Sky , anyone else i should be looking at?

I'd take a look at Plusnet.

end of the day it comes down to where you are and what connections are like in your area.

Ive got Virgin 100mb. I stream Kodi like crazy as well as PS4, phones, wifi enabled speakers etc. My speed off peak runs close and sometimes above 100mb and during peak runs close to 75% speed.

Whats good for one person will not be good for you unfortuantely.

I've just upgraded my virgin from 70mb to 100mb for a cheaper price too (saving about 40p pm)

Checked last night and it was running around 85mbps which isn't bad for 7pm on a tuesday night. When I was on 70mb, I never had less than 68mb and a lot of teh time it was running around 74/75mbps

Edit:

Checked the speed over the last two nights at 7pm and it's been 102 and 105mbps (that's on a phone over wifi)

My virgin downloads around 200-210 Mbps, so as above ide be surprised if any other provider is any better as I bet it's cable dependant that's in your street.

I actually downgraded my Virgin package because it was overkill. I wasn't using the download speeds. Especially as my old homeplugs were the bottleneck. I've since upgraded them and i still don't utilise my download speeds. Kodi running off a fire stick is the biggest draw and it's my internal WIFI that's the bottleneck.

I only recently had Virgin installed on the 200mb and was only getting around 70mb so downgraded to their 100mb and now get 100mb basically 24/7. Was previously on BT Infinity and constantly got 73mb without any problems.

What do you do with these huge speeds, is there any advantage unless you're regularly downloading huge files from a very fast server? I've just tested mine out, and I'm embarrassed to say it's under 50mb but I can still stream Sky in HD, so what am I missing?

I stream lots of sky (skygo on xbox) and we watch a lot of catch up tv etc.
I've got a photo of the bandwidth usage in my xbox from the last year. We used over 500gb a few months ago just on my Xbox for streaming. My phone is always over 10gb of usage too

If you can stream without buffering - that's all that matters.

to play Fifa and stream Kodi with no buffering is incentive enough

Sky here. Seems less restricted than BT and never had a drop out in 3 years. BT used to drop out all the time. The perks with BT were that they were offerIng McAfee anti virus at the time for the duration of the contract for up to 10 devices! May be their service has improved now or so one hopes. Sky GO is a bonus.

Mine is exactly the same, I have 100mb with Virgin Media, in the evening I'm lucky to even get 4mb at times. So things like Netflix and Amazon Prime are not even usable in the evening which is when we'd want to use it.
