Factory Tire
I just finished up Euro Delivery and noticed my 2017 M2 came with Continental ContiSportContact 3 tires. I was a little disappointed it didn't have the Michelin Super Sports I was expecting, but not a big deal.
Anyone else receive their car with the Continentals? Maybe it's a 2017 change? |

Wow. I would much rather have had the PSSs. Maybe the Contis have a new compound?

I'd complain big time if it were me. My understanding is that that tire was specifically developed for that vehicle and contributes to its amazing driving dynamics.

Ugh that's terrible news. Those are what came stock on the B7 Audi RS4 and they always made the car feel way more nervous vs the Bridgestone RE-01R and RE-11 that have been in the car since I destroyed those during a day of auto x classes doing probably 30 or so runs that one morning lol. I've also Never had good luck with Continental tires in regards to getting flats and things like that, they just never seemed to be right for me.
It's really a shame as the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are such an amazing all around high performance 3 season tire. |

I will have real issues if my car comes with Conti's. This happens because back during the recession the tire companies were sitting on large stocks of tires and had way too much production capacity so they shut down production and sold the tires they had in stock. When they reopened production they did so at a much lower rate. This is why some tire sizes are tough to find or are impossible. What can and does happen is that BMW or any other manufacture goes to build the car and the OEM tire producer cannot supply tires for it so they substitute so they can get the car built rather than hold the order. BMW will tell you it is an equivalent tire but we all know that isn't the case. They advertise the car as having PSS so I won't be accepting anything but PSS. That doesn't mean the Cont's are terrible or anything, they are just not the tire that was designed to go on the car.

Just looked at the list of standard items and Michelin PSS is no longer listed, just high performance and the tire size. I believe that is a change, probably to give them flexibility. Heck I wonder if tire availability has been one of the things keeping production numbers down??

That's not good, the Conti 3's are a real downgrade from the PSS. The grip isn't nowhere near as good, significant difference. I couldn't live with Conti 3's again after life with PSS's.

My MY17 came with PSS and I am happy with the PSS.
Contis have good reviews too.

Almost every article I have read about the M2 including MY17 touts the Michelin sport tires, no mention is made of Continental tires. Is BMW supplying cars for the journalists with the Michelin equipped version for their evaluation? Can this be false advertising? I can't believe that they are having problems getting the tires for such a low production car.

I have been using Michelin PS2's on my RS6 for 14 years. They are great. I first had the PS 1's on my 97 M3, loved them, great even wear great traction. The newer versions added better wet road handling. Now the PSS on my M2 are great and my next set for the RS6 will be the same.
I don't care to modify my cars, as I save money for GTO....Gas, Tires and Oil. LOL. Fortunately Oil has not been a problem. Mike
