Buying a used 335 Msport xdrive or 330 Msport xdrive

Hi,
Has anybody ever been in the position of considering buying a 330 touring, bought it and regretted not going for a 335 touring. I'm unsure whether to stick with looking for 330 msport xdrive or waiting for a 335 msport xdrive. Yes I know have a drive of both but would I feel the difference in a 20/30 min test drive.
I'm interested in peoples opinions
Thanks

Assuming you mean 330d and not the petrol 330i...?

If you want xDrive then there is only one choice....335d

Being a petrol head, you always want the engine that is one bit faster.

I have 330d and it gives me enough power for my daily routine. The 335d will have more power, but where do you stop? Do you just hang on and get a M3?

Not sure this helps, but a 330d gives enough for most people. And you still get the odd idiot who tries to race you - like a guy did to me today - but he didn't see speed camera and bottled the overtake and nearly crashed into me!!!!

I've had a 330d and 335d F30, the 330d 'feels' just as fast due to the single big turbo, so I wouldn't pay much more, or in your case probably pay more and have a long wait, to get a 335d.

I got the 335d for the same price as a 330d so it was a no brainer for me.

I own a 435d and drive the companies 330d Xdrive from time to time. They both give plenty of get up and go power for day to day driving. i've notice the 330d changes down gears more often, due to it have less torque. but as the 8 speed gearbox sorts it out very nicely it's really no problem. If you want Xdrive then i'd go for the 35d. it's a weapon.

Be sure you "need" X drive as well first. All depends if the grip is worth trading off the non M sport suspension and higher fuel consumption etc

When I started looking I went out to buy a 330d X drive saloon and very quickly realised a 330d S drive looked better (lower), used less fuel, was more fun to drive (rear drive handling). Yes a 335d is a bit quicker but not enough to want to have to then modify the suspension with aftermarket springs...

Winter tyres take care of Nov-Feb for me, its the perfect compromise.

If I needed an estate I wouldnt be looking any further than a 330d S drive touring personally but you might have different needs / priorities.

My 435d is better on fuel than the 330d. Both xdrive.

I think other people have posted there is generally about a 4-5 mpg trade off for X drive but cant comment as haven't run one..

All I do know is my 330d has NEVER returned less than 40 mpg on a tank full in a year no matter how I drive it and easily does 550 miles on a tank with mixed driving.

The trouble is that asking 'should I buy the fast car, or the even faster car?' on this forum is only ever going to give one answer

If someone had just bought a Bugatti Veyron, it wouldn't be long before someone else would suggest chipping it...

Given your current car's X-Drive - and you're choosing between a 330d X-drive and a 335d - I assume it's a given that you want or need X-Drive?!

That being the case I'd say the 335d is the nicer car and I'd have thought they're now in reasonable supply on the second-hand market (and hence you wouldn't have to wait an especially long time for a suitable one to turn-up). I drove a couple of 330d's before getting my 335d and personally I found the twin-tubo engine to be smoother and less obviously a diesel....

Save your money to fix the suspension.

Surely it depends if you want something faster, the 330d isn't a slouch by any means.

The 335d has twin turbo's so can make max boost from around 1500RPM ish upwards and a bigger turbo that can flow more particular higher up and produce more power under the curve.

I've got a 330d xdrive Touring. The non suspension is terrible. unfortunately mine doesn't have adaptive.

mine is being returned for a refund, long story, it will be replaced with a 335d or 340i both will have adaptive.

I went into a dealer quite happy to buy a 330d. Salesman arranged a back to back test drive with a 335d.

Decision made after that. There is a difference!

When he worked out the monthlies and the 335d came in £10 cheaper it was an easy decision....

There is no way a 435d will be more economical than a 330d if both have been driven in the same manner, on the same journeys.

Impossible.
