wait for new m5?

When will the new m5 hit the market?
Debating btw buying 2016 m5 at a good deal or wait for new one.
I guess the out going m5 will depreciate a bit when the new one is out.

Buy the '16 now. The F10 is a solid platform and pretty reliable.

I've never been a fan of buying early ///M cars due to mechanical issues and the future LCI Changes LI-M5 mentioned. Plus the new M5 won't available for at least another 18 months.

What were the changes from 2012 to 2016 for the m5?
Any significant drive train changes or improvements?
Options?

Basically this was my plan. Just traded in my 14 and got a great deal on a 16 to wait until the F90? LCI as there were significant changes from the 13 to 14. Not sure if my timing will work out but should be close.

I'd definitely say get 16 now as there are great deals to be had and wait til second model year of the F90

Steering was a huge improvement for the LCI, along with the competition package. Full LED's and redesigned headlights were also in the LCI from 2014, also got adjustable side bolsters. 2015 the engine received an electric wastegate and that's as much as I know. Cup holders were also changed during the LCI.

This

Plus the double slatted kidney grilles and ///M 5 badge on the 14+ models.

Get the F10. Life is short. The new M5 won't hit the US for at least 2 years. Then the comp package two years after that....

You won't be making a factory order anymore, they're done with the F10 end-Oct, so you'll have to snap up whatever is in the supply chain already. I did get a factory order in last minute 1 week ago.

I currently own my F82 M4. I was looking at slightly used MY14 M5's at the time. I'm going to enjoy the 2 door banger that this car is until the F90 M5 hits the showroom and buy it right away.

Cars are always changing with every model year so if you're going to use the "next year will have new headlights" as an excuse to wait, you'll never end up getting a car.

I'd do an F10 M5 for now, then pick the new one up in a few years when it's released. I lease mine though (tax reasons), so I don't care what depreciation is. But you can get really good deals right now on them.

Brief story though... a few months back a dude ran a stop sign and smashed my M5, months before it was due back from lease. I called my sales guy next day, I JUST managed to get an order in on a new M5 with Azurite individual paint. I say just, because my sales guy had to fight tooth and nail to convince BMW Canada and BMW AG to actually do it (I really bitched a lot). So I don't think you'll be getting one that hasn't already been built.

If I do get the next F90 (G80) M5, it won't be until the LCI Competition Package M5 comes out which I speculate will be in 2019 as a 2020 model year M5. I learned my lesson about Pre-LCI M cars and their residuals are always horrible, never again.

Wait...no awd? I keep reading conflicting news on this. Is it confirmed no awd for next m5?

Nothing is official yet. The latest rumors include:

1. No AWD at all.

2. Optional AWD version of the M5 and a non-AWD version to be sold at the same time.

3. Some sort of select-ability technology that will let the driver choose between AWD and RWD mode on the fly.

4. And my favorite, the next M5 will get a hybrid drive train, like the Porsche 918, where the front wheels are only powered by electric motor(s). But this option means batteries and batteries mean weight.

It would probably end up *almost being a wash without the need for a front transfer case, plus the instantaneous front wheel torque from electric motors would be awesome.
