Maintenance Program / Warranty for Canadians who bought in the U.S.
The car is telling me that i'm due for service (red service trapezoid).
I scrolled through the menu and the items due are: brake fluid and microfilter. So.... Where do all of you (who bought in the U.S.) take your cars for the (free) Maintenance Program? Have any of you taken your car to Buffalo for maintenance? Thoughts? Buffalo is close, and I don't mind driving there, but i'm also thinking that maybe I should be establishing a decent relationship with BMW Toronto for my eventual warranty claims. Thanks for your input

Maintenance warranty is not honoured by BMW Canada.
I think that after exporting it, you also lose the ability to go to a US dealership for free maintenance.

I don't think so - I think its still honoured by the US. But yes, it wouldn't be honoured here, unless its actual warranty and not the maintenance program.

I bought my 335i in the States and have had it serviced in Buffalo when I was visiting St Cathererines. No problem except at the border when I told the female Border Services Officer why I went over to the States and she tried to tell me that the oil change was subject to duty. I went to the office and the girl there looked at me funny and told me no problem--you can leave. SO---moral of the story, you were just having lunch.

The US BMW Maintenance Program covers oil service and fluids, brake pads, brake rotors and wiper blade inserts. Is there a Canadian equivalent to this? Are US-imported cars covered by this? I don't think it's worth the trip down south for an oil change, but I agree with sandecker, for brakes, a little weekend in Syracuse would be more than welcome.

I know for a fact that warranty is honored in Canada since I too had my fuel pump replaced.
So, can we assume that as of today, none of the US importers has ever brought their car in for brakes at the Cdn dealer yet?

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=warranty Last fall BMWCa has said that they will charge $500. for an "inspection" before they will honour the warranty on US cars. Do they still have this policy? I don't know about brakes, but I have received new wiper blades from the Buffalo dealer under the US maintenance warranty. |

Yes they do. You have to pay the 500$ extortion fee when they first inspect the car and give you your recall clearance letter.

According to the dealership around here, the brakes are NOT included, you have to buy this 'additional' car care program. The manufacture warranty only includes warranty and the maintenance is only for the schedule maintenance of your car such as oil and filter changes and spark plugs, etc.

But what about US dealers? Let's say I bought my car in the US and then imported it to Canada. Can I go to the US to get my brakes done, since brakes are included in the US maintenance program? or... Can I get my brakes done at the CDN dealer and then ask BMWNA to reimburse the fees? Oil changes and wiper blades, we don't care.. but a brake job... that might be > $1K. In any case, once we know the answer, we might have to kill this thread or else BMWNA will create a new policy just to make sure that importers don't profit from these gray zones.

Yes or... Can I get my brakes done at the CDN dealer and then ask BMWNA to reimburse the fees? maybe, but you are taking a chance that the Cdn dealer wont give your car back until you pay the $500 "inspection" fee |
