My 04/07 E90 has the annoying beep sound rather than than sophisticated "gong" sound. I found a thread that suggests that all you need to do is swap the radio head unit to a newer model and change one thing in the coding. However, the thread was not very clear on the process and which head unit to get.

Used head units are pretty cheap. If it's easy to swap this might be a clean and simple "mod".

Has anyone successfully done this?
