Need Exhaust Video
I'm not having much luck finding what I'm looking for. I'm considering a catless downpipe with stock exhaust but I'm not sure about the sound. All the videos I've found are with the camera at exhaust height directly behind the tips. Half of them are with the car still sitting in the garage echoing the sound. They also don't usually say if they are running with the flap open.
I know from the stock exhaust when standing behind it during a cold start it can be loud but then you stand over to the side by the doors and it's significantly quiter. So what I'm hoping is that someone has some videos from the side of the car and more importantly, some in car driving around casually and full throttle with windows up and down. I know it might be a long shot but figured it didn't hurt to ask. Thanks. Last edited by Kevin39; 10-14-2016 at 08:55 AM.. |

Seriously though, you can't go wrong with a BMW Performance exhaust- folks are always selling one in the FS section. There's also Borla and DINAN, but then you're getting into some money. |

I'm really looking for some downpipe only videos since there isn't much to gain from the cat back but if I have to buy the cat back too to make it sound right then I'll probably just skip it all together. Just curious if there's any drone or how obnoxious it would be inside windows up and windows down. It will still be hard to tell from a video but short of finding one around here to get a ride in, I don't really have any other options other than taking everyone's word for it and just trying it. We'll see. I got map 5 up and running and now the clutch won't hold so I was thinking of doing the downpipe at the same time.
Another thing is a lot of the out of car videos I find have PPK. I just don't understand the fascination everyone seems to have with the pops and crackles. |

Found this on YouTube ^ Its hard to make a decision from a video. You need to hear it in person or just try it out and change it if you don't like it. I did PE exhaust first, and it sounds a lot better that stock, which might be good enough for you. I did the DP later on an it really gives the exhaust note a deeper and louder tone. Cold starts with PE+ DP are LOUD! IMHO.. others may say it's not that bad. My 335 isn't my daily driver so I like it and can live with it. My wife says she can hear me coming from blocks away and that I wake her up every morning I decide to drive my 335 to work. Our bedroom is on the 3rd floor and garage is attached to the basement.

This is a 135i with catless DP stock mid and berk race (no muffler axle back)
I have videos of my car with stock valved exhaust I can email you if you want pm me an address. TBH my 135i stock axle back sounds good and it's still pretty loud but it has this slight tinny type of empty rattle to it under certain load/rpm conditions that I don't like. The straight pipe and DP with stock resonator is the cleanest IMO.

I don't have a video of my car but I do have the VRSF catless DP with the stock exhaust. I also have the PPK flash which keeps the butterfly valve open more often. I'm very happy with the sound. Sounds nice especially with the windows down but not overly aggressive or too much drone on the highway.

Since I made this thread, I've added a Wagner catted downpipe when I changed the clutch and it's definitely louder but I haven't gotten to hear it much yet as I've only got 75 miles on the new clutch. Looking forward to hearing what it's like at full throttle.
Unfortunately it's already starting to snow around here. May still go for a cat back down the road just for a little different sound. Hopefully I'll get to hear one in person that I like by then. I'm thinking LSD and coilovers are next on the list though. |
