I believe there is a recall our for specific thermostats. But other than that, shit happens.

I don't know if ours "broke," but my wife got a yellow dash icon while traveling this summer - 25K on the '13 328ix. She stopped at a local dealer & they checked it - caused by the thermostat, so they replaced it as part of the campaign/recall.
