Stock exhaust note

Just wondering if the exhaust note changes when put the M240i in sport mode. I know other BMW's do.

Assuming it's similar to 235 yes, it'll give you a louder growl as well as the pops on decel. It also kicks the ASD in the cabin up as well which does increase sound (if that's your thing).

I test drove a 235 and bought a 240. The difference between sport and comfort is not as pronounced in the 240 as it was in the 235. It's there, but it's subtle.

How does the m235 sound compared to the m240? about the same or does the b58 have a character of it's own?

FWIW...I unplugged the exhaust valve actuator on my ex-GF's car and it sounds better. Not too loud, but a nice bit throatier. Beyond that, an MPE would be even better.

I find the difference between sport and sport+ much more pronounced in the M240i.

"awful" is a little overly dramatic, no? If you want more sound, get the MPE, as it does not have a valve so it runs open 100% of the time and sounds good. If you want to add more engine sound, try adding the Sprint Booster. It is only to advance the throttle delay algorithm, but since more fuel is called for more rapidly, it actually gives the car a slightly more agressive sound, plus sharper throttle response. I put one on my Ex-GF's M235iX and my own F80. Improves driveability considerably.

I already ordered the MPE.

It definitely doesn't sound awful. It sounds naturally aspirated, and I think that's what BMW was trying to go for.
