New M2 but not M PSS tires

After 10 months wait, finally got the M2 today. However, like some of the forum members here, I'm not getting the Michelin PSS tires but the OLD Continental Sport Contact 3!!!

The sales said in the same shipment, some are having PSS and some are having SC3.

Taking delivery today as well and I got the Michelin PSS.

I got the Continentals but there was another M2 there that came over with mine that had the Michelins. Very frustrating.

Tires are items that wear. Enjoy the car and when it's time to replace you can get whatever you think is the best tire lol.

I agree but to an extent. BMW heavily advertised the MPSS for the MY16 M2, saying it was specially designed, blah, blah, marketing, blah, and it was the exclusive tire.

For MY17 they sneakily took that description away and changed it simply to "high performance tires", so I can certainly understand why people would be upset.

Doesn't help the Contis are vastly inferior to the MPSS.

Its silly bmw would create this controversy. At least offer another tire more comparable in peoples eyes to the MPSS if you are phasing out the michelins. My car showed up yesterday and it came with the super sports. from the graph in the other thread it does still seem like the majority come with the michelins at around 60%.

BMW has done this as far back as the E46 M3 unfortunately. The E46 M3 originally came with Pilot Sport (1) tires and at some point started showing up with ContiSportContact (1). My Z4M came with the Contis. Actually I think all the Z4Ms came with them as the PS1 was discontinued at some point.

They are probably close enough, I agree, but if I am paying the $54k sticker price I would want the Michelins.

Yup, I drew the short straw too. The only one of three delivered to Halifax without the PSS

Not sure why BMW is wandering away from the intended equipment. Not a huge deal... much rather have my M2 with Contis than not have my M2

I was one of the unlucky ones to get Conti's on my M2 when I took delivery in October. While I understand that this is a wear item, and the Conti's are in the same tire category, it did sting a little because of all the Michelin PSS mentions in the M2 marketing and reviews. So I wrote to the BMW Genius, offering my feedback. My message, and their response are below:

Hello, I'm excited to say that I'll be taking delivery of my first BMW tomorrow (a 2017 M2). Unfortunately, my CA informed me that it will come with Continental ContiSport Contact 3 tires. There are many reasons why the M2 is a special car, but one of them was because it comes from the factory with exclusive Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires - as explained by the original press release:

The Continental tires are cheaper, older technology and are known to be noisier, less grippy and/or have reduced tread life. I just wanted to express my dissatisfaction with what feels like a bait-and-switch.

Once your tires are due to be replaced, consider to get the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S (PS4S).

I've had three sets of Conti Sport Contacts on my 135. In order of best to worst I rate them CSC2 > CSC5 > CSC3. The 3s had the least grip and wore out the fastest. The 2s were actually a pretty good tyre. Getting the 3s on the M2 is unfortunate.

Continental is now sponsoring BMW Performance Centers at Thermal and South Carolina. I am guessing Michelin v Continental was all business. I will be surprised if Continentals are not on all new M2's soon.

Ok, maybe, but not old Continentals that are several levels below their best tire. That is a different story.

You guys should offer up your car to a car magazine to gripe about the issue. They could do some tests to show the difference. Maybe this would influence BMW to provide the same tries they just happened to mount on all their test vehicles.

I also got the Conti's, wasn't happy but I am not allowing that one issue to keep me from enjoying the car. I am quite sure that Michelin was not able to provide enough tires to keep up with demand so they went with an alternate supplier to ensure that they can produce the actual cars. The fact is they do this with many parts that come from multiple suppliers, denso and bosch both provide starters for example. Most of these alternatives are not as visible as the tires and yes everyone would rather have the michelins but its not the end of the world.

BMW are actually having big supply problems with Michelin.
Just like tire shops ( Go see how few have M3, M5 and M2 tires in stock or available within a few weeks, even months sometimes)

To help with this the new M5 wont just have Michelin and Pirelli, like the outgoing model, but will have, Continental, Michelin and Toyo from launch. Pirelli may be added later aswell.

The M2 may even get a 3rd option in the meantime aswell.
