adding external Sirius box to 2011 in trunk
I have a lifetime subscription Sirius tuner. My 2011 E90 has sirius built into my HU, but I can't transfer the lifetime sub or want to pay the $240 FSC code.
I do not use the TCU unit in the trunk for BMW assist, I would like to sell my TCU unit. This car does not have I drive and I never need Bluetooth with an AUX cable. My plan is to connect the TCU's most loop into my SIRIUS tuner, I have the sat antenna wire moved to the trunk, I coded my rad2 to use "external" tuner. My biggest question is how do I power the Sirius unit? It has 4 pins right next to the MOST connection for power (can someone with a multimeter and Sirius in their 2006-2010 E90 tell me what the pins and voltages are?) Second question is simply determining how to disable the TCU? I already tried unplugging it but my cars amp makes weird noise every 3 seconds with the TCU getting no power, as I assume the MOST loop is broken then) If I get working power to my external sat tuner, then I can complete the loop that way? Main question is what voltages do I put on pins 1,2,3,4 of my external Sirius tuner? thanks |

siriusxm box works off pin 1 getting 12V and 2,3,4 are connected all to ground. USed 12V battery, amp noise went away and MOST loop was happy.
Still have not figured out what wires on mt TMU (dc wires) are the 12V, the thicket two are pins 2 and 14. But I am not reading anything on them. this confirms that... wonder if fuse is bad or why I am not getting anything? Where else can I power the sirius in my trunk? 1----Mic(pos)--------------25----Mic(pos) 4----AUX-GND-------------10----AUX-GND 15---Crash Sig.-------------7----Crash Sig. 17---30 Power+ 5A---------2----30 Power+ 5A 18---30 Power+ 10A--------1----30 Power+ 10A 19---MIC(neg)------------12-----MIC(neg) 21---MIC Shield-----------11-----MIC Shield 23---Shield---------------22-----Shield 31---SOS sig.f Button-----18-----SOS sig.f Button 33---Wakeup-------------15-----Wakeup 36---31 GROUND(neg)-----14----31 GROUND(neg) 37---emerg. ok it was a fuse for the combox/phone... i now have power!
I removed 6AA and 6AB to uninstall the combox from the car, I switched 639 to 644 and I no longer have any SOS/phone icon errors or errors in INPA. My new problem is that the MOST loop is not sending fiber signals at all. I have yet to code sirius for exbox (currently says inbox). But i noticed my AUX doesn't work and my USB port has 0 volts. Why isn't my MOST loop on? is there a MOST loop fuse? I think the coding changes turned the most loop off but not sure. any help? |

If you have a coding setup you can read the radio file.
The software that runs the most loop and its modules is going to be different by year to accommodate the hardware changes. For instance some people have intstalled the newer radio with usb and satalite contained in the head unit and when they wanted to install it on an older car they had to change the build date of the car in software in order to get the newer software to download in the older car. For what you are doing the reverse may be true and there is no way to know if this will work . You need to go to the coding subforum to see if anybody has done this I have never seen someone try to move and old module into a newer car it was probably not intended for. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687463 Last edited by ctuna; 11-27-2016 at 04:14 PM.. |

I just took my old combox and powered it up and hooked up MOST and the AUX now works! Even though my Sirius box was hooked up with 12V and fiber and I could see the fiber flashing the AUX did not work.... So this means the Sirius box is putting crap on the MOST line that stops the AUX from working and probably prevents the RAD2 from even working with the Sirius box once I code it to be EXBOX not INBOX, but I have not done that yet. I will rehookup and try downgrrading or changing production date to get AUX working with the Sirus hooked up into the MOST. Once my AUX is working through the MOST loop with sirius also on the loop then I will try coding the RAD2 unit to work with Sirius EXBOX, but that is one more step away! |

Okay my newest problem is coding the RAD2 (U2RAD). I only have a OBD cable. this thread says I can use en emulator: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=709632, does it work?
I can RG_REST it and when the TRC file comes back I see that SDARS setting are "inbox" (just like other threads talk about). I need to try exbox but I have no way to code (write) the MAN file to the U2RAD. I guess either an emulator or new cable? I was able to upgrade the firmware on the RADIO via winKFP, took 1 hour. Changed nothing. I can't find the ECU family or any file to upgrade the MOSTGW, and I also can't code it. Have not tried production date changing.... in theory I only have to go to 2009/2010 production date where SDARS is not included. |

I assume the MOST (fiber loop) so Can I just connect the ICOM cable in the trunk where my SIRIUS tuner will install? When I buy a cable will it be male or female connectors? (like a dual fiber wire in my car or connector port?) |

The Bimmertech threads for people who have gone that route say
the one they send is plugged into the OBD. Also they would most likely know if the route you are taking is even possible. There was a thread on here were one guy struggled to get hes radio done at the dealer and then Bimmertech was able to do it for him. You might call or email them to see if what you are doing is even possible. Don't know much about icom cables but the ones I have seen usually come with multiple adapters for interfacing. |

if you are this brave and like playing wouldn't it be better to put it back to std and just hack the fsc code for the current tuner
why wouldn't you want a car with BT anyone buying from you will be desperate for it? |

No one uses BT with a car in Alaska, no cell phone usage driving laws here. I do not have idrive and the bluetooth functionality for music in the RADIO is way worse that Android screen with AUX cable. |
