i believe you push down on the top and then they come out. You can have them painted or buy some that have been pre-painted on E-bay. Hope this answers your question.

On the E46 you could insert like a credit card from the top and push down on the retention tabs. PM to Longtran.

I took one of mine off today.
WARNING: On the E92, the spring loaded edge is the top edge. Do not try to pry it from the top. I nearly broke mine. Pry it from the bottom. Swamp and I are considering making flush parts. Stay tuned...

Lucid, could you please make a video on removing it and post it on youtube? That would be extremely helpful.

If you made flush, then at some point I would own 4 different sets of plastic that goes in the bumper -- OEM, clear, painted, flush.

I started trying to pry from the top because of that first link to the reflectors showed the springs on top. I ended up gouging part of the orange reflector so I gave up. I asked Mike Vu from MV Designs, who is painting my trunk, to help me remove it. He took a look at it and removed it with his hands by pushing against the bumper to create a gap at the bottom and I believe he grabbed the bottom part with his finger tips and pulled it out. It only took him like 5 seconds each side with no tools. I'd say if you can do it this way without tools, that's the way to go.

F, it really is simple as long as you approach it from the bottom. As someone mentioned you could probably even flip it out with a credit card.

Will keep you guys posted on the flush reflector development, but it will be a few weeks before any significant news given work schedules.
