Cheap Satnav & Bluetooth Install!!!

Decided to mount my Garmin Nuvi by sticking the supplied round black adhesive disk to the panel underneath the aircon controls. I then attached the satnav mount to this disk rather than directly to the windscreen. Fits there just perfectly and cannot be reached easily from the outside when the roof is down, unlike when stuck to the windscreen! Cheaper than the ProClip mount and IMHO easier to use here as your wrist rests on the transmission tunnel and makes using the touch screen really easy.

I also have the AUX socket fitted inside the glovebox. As I mostly use my iPod in the Zed, I used a 2-into-1 headphone splitter (Maplin, £3.49) to connect one lead to my iPod and a second short iPod lead (Maplin, £1.99) to the headphone socket on my Nuvi. So now I have both iPod and satnav feeding through my Zed's stereo!

I have the satnav and iPod volumes adjusted so that the satnav can be heard above the iPod and can adjust the main volume for both via the main stereo volume control.

As a bonus, my Nuvi has bluetooth built in.... so by connecting my phone to my nuvi I also get bluetooth handsfree booming out through the main car speakers....!! And amazingly the tiny microphone on the front of the nuvi picks up either mine or my passenger's voice no problems at all.... and was recently tested at 65mph with the roof down and it worked fine!

Not a perfect set up.... but how else can I get handsfree bluetooth and satnav for £5.48!!!

Good thinking! That's a nice set up.

The only down side is that the gps is not at eye level. It's kind of dangerous to have to look down at it.

Oh, and how did you get that Z4 car icon on your Garmin?! Was it included or did you have to upload it into the unit?

Hmmm, yes I wondered about the positioning too but after a 700 mile run at the weekend its really ok.

It eliminates the blind spot you get if you have it stuck on the windscreen so IMO better. And safer down there, as it can't be snatched if the roof is down!

I was going to stick the adhesive disk on the dashboard where most people mount the ProClip, but i thought it a much neater install here, has less screen reflection, is easier to use the screen as you can use the tranny tunnel to rest your wrist and in fact in my Z4 its only about 6" lower down than if I used the ProClip.

Works for me, but maybe not everyones choice! The thing is you can stick tha adhesive disk anywhere.

BTW, the Z4 icon is here, courtesy of another forum.....

6. Double-click the Unplug or Eject icon in your system tray. Click Stop, and then click OK.
7. Unplug the USB cable from your Garmin GPS device.

How to change your ride:

Is Your NUVI Acquiring Satellites with the Z4's Top Up

Thanks for sharing this setup.

Are you acquiring satellites and NUVI directions with the Z4's convertible soft top up?

I've just got a Garmin nuvi 265WT and am deciding where to install it

Have you put a permanent supply in or are you just plugging in the supplied one?

I tried sticking the disk to my dash but it just falls off lol So I'm going to get some stronger double sided tape.
