Wheel barrow cleaner

Any recommendations for a metal cleaner for the pipes on a 340 that wont corrode them over time?

I've never had to use a metal cleaner.
Whenever I wash my car, and the wheelbarrow handles, I use a little smear of Vaseline on the ends of both pipes. It just wipes off at the next wash and is then re-applied.

Brigand reckons KY jelly works just as well, but I can't advise on that

Try Autosol - brings them up a treat.

Also believe Megs NXT metal polish is supposed to be pretty good but not used it myself.

Autosol does it best, it works so well you don't need other cleaners or polish.
But do smear vaseline on the edges it helps eliminate the build-up of contaminants.

Garage List
Another Autosol fan here. Use it once a month.

Anyone know for sure which metal the LCI twin pipe finishers are fashioned from? IIRC the BMW brochure says "chrome" but they almost look stainless.

I have the chrome, stainless and aluminium variants of Solvol/Autosol here so it would be good to use the most appropriate one. After only four weeks of ownership the pipes are truly minging.

Mothers metal polish, just superb. Like most metal polish less is more.

Clay Bar does a great job of removing lots of the carbon deposits.

However, I'm yet to find a good way of preventing the build up. I may have to go a Vaseline my pipes...

Edit, has anybody tried a Ceramic Wheel Sealant on their pipes? If they are lacquered it should be ok, the chemical carrier may tarnish bare metal...

Megs NXT is good, as is Autosol, but I'd probably say that the Britemax 'twins' are the best bang for buck, one cleans, one then puts down some protection and both are formulated for metal - well worth a look.

I put Gyeon Rim on the exhaust tip of my parents X4 and I put Collinite 845 on the exhaust tip of my F36. I don't find much of a difference between the two in terms of reducing carbon build-up.

I looked at getting some Autosol from Halfrauds but it recommended on the back of the packaging that it's not for use on Chrome or Mirror Finish Alloys

Despite clearly saying "chrome" on the front of the packaging?

Autosol is quite abrasive, I wouldn't use it on anything that isn't heavily tarnished already otherwise it could damage the finish. I just wash the exhaust tips on mine (and all cars previously) with normal car shampoo and they have all stayed looking clean and shiny. Occasionally they might need some tar remover. Admittedly some second hand cars I've had required a good polish up and I normally start with old car polish before resorting to metal polish.

Autosol is too abrasive to leave a mirror finish though, especially on soft metals like aluminium and it's alloys hence the warning on the packet

I had excellent results with Cook Brite stainless steel cookware cleaner on the polished stainless exhaust on my Mazda.

Just tried in on the 320i and the exhaust tips look better than the day we collected it from the dealer.

Cook Brite is a gel and whilst it has pretty much the same cleaning power as Bar Keepers Friend it doesn't contain any abrasive powder.
