Xice + xdrive = winter juggernaut
Got hit with the first snow dump in Toronto yesterday. I was driving around last night and just straight up beasted everything. I had the car last winter too, but never really got to drive in real snow accumulation.
And boy..does sport plus with DTC help you blast off the line fast..a jeep cherokee decided to race me at a stoplight..smoked him so bad, it wasnt funny. Also, i feel that those F-150s and Silverados have a very fragile ego.. They dont like being passed by sedans in snow. I passed this F150 on an incline with quite a lot of unploughed snow on the road and I was doing above speed limit.. He didnt like that.. He punched it,but got a little squirly..I was gone by the time he straightened his tail out. I just feel that xdrive+winter tires gives you so much confidence in such situations, its not even funny. I am running Xice Xi3s in 225/50/17s. You did good.. |

Blizzak Mz-03 245/40/18 with x-drive. We had a big storm in Chicagoland and we left my wife's SUV home as her car was sliding and mine wasn't... All four of us in my car with the snow coming down. No problem. Except kids dragging snow in my beautiful car... |

When I was stationed in Alaska, I can't tell you how many times I seen someone with a AWD car or truck, who thought they were above the elements, get into a accident. Their vehicle ended up sliding into ditch, a collision with an object or another vehicle, or worse flipped over... Be safe out there

Officially I'll echo the comment suggesting we stay cautious even with good setups. . . . . but today was my first commute through a decent snowfall in my 340xi with Sottozeros and I was pretty damn impressed. Near me it was all plows and SUVs out on the backroads, and my MPPSK'd 340i stood out with the ground work and exhaust crackles, all while handling the snow like a boss. My front lip does spray mounds of snow up onto the windshield though!

Thanks for the comments everyone Good advise about taking it easy BTW..I also drove my friends e90 325i rwd with winters and sandbags in the trunk and its night and day. Although rwd is still pretty good with winters but Xdrive has value in snow, faster off the line on packed intersections and inclines, and the front just pulls you out of bad, worse and dangerous situations and turns and you are exponentially more confident in changing lanes or direction in general.
TIP: Run 32psi all round, MOAR GRIP. I also came across a white M4..stuck and spinning tires on Markham Road incline. (anyone from Scartown? ) I was just getting a feel for it yesterday and knowing the limits of my setup.Although I am very impressed with overall control, grip, acceleration in snow.. I can say this, be careful when braking because inertia cant be defeated, not in snow. Its just physics. At speeds excess of 80,your stopping distance in that kind of packed snow even with winter tires and awd ..is huge. With all that blowing snow, I couldn't spot the street I had to make a right into, I was going speed limit,brake..ABS pulse and very little reduction in speed, there was a car waiting to come out of the street, I didn't wanna risk his airbags getting deployed and spilling his hot TimHortons cup and giving BMW drievrs a bad name, so I thought..Ill just take the next street, so I got back on the gas and slight left..,tail was straight throughout that misadventure..no problems. Although, I couldn't see his face with all that snow on his windows but he probably needed a fresh pair of pants and febreeze after that. |

I know exactly what you're talking about OP.
First real snow fall in Toronto so of course plows were late to hit the roads. Snow and xdrive so I had no problem. But every single 4x4 truck I was near was struggling with its rear end sliding everywhere |

I had a 335i with Blizzaks, and it was an awesome winter experience. I know this car can inspire confidence in wintery conditions, but stay safe dude!!

But boy..was it a quick commute to work today in the morning. Deserted DVP..I got to Downtown Bloor and Sherbourne in 20 minutes from Kennedy/Sheppard, takes me 40 minutes if I am lucky..on a non-snow day. Guess the snow scares the all season tire crowd to work from home or take the TTC, the morning after.Good for me.. |

A bit of snow here today as well, third snow dump of the season.
Wasn't really racing anyone myself, but RWD and great brand new set of winters did great today. At the risk of sounding very boring, I agree with others though, assuming xDrive is bulletproof (and racing) is dangerous. I generally pay a bit more attention behind the wheel of my car, comparing to my wife's (RWD Vs. AWD, both with great winter tires). |

My 335xi is on all seasons but so far its all good, we got a couple snow storms in vancouver recently so roads are not that great. No problem whatsoever.
My M4 on the other hand..... I got it stuck right as I was leaving my garage and it took me a shit ton of shovelling the ice and snow off + laying towels under the wheels to get enough traction to back it back in the garage. Have not touched it since... |

I'm gonna be the first one to say that Xdrive with snow tires is good but not as good as Subaru AWD with same snow tires. Not even close...

Depends on the Subaru, they are not all created equal.
