M Performance coilovers - WAY too high in the rear

after installing the MP coilovers, the rears are actually sitting higher than stock. MUCH higher than stock at least 2 inches i estimate.

i installed the suspension myself, having done hundreds of suspension jobs in the past i am certain the install was correct. I actually took it all apart and rechecked, and reinstalled. I'm totally stumped.

Another forum member had the exact same problems as me so i'm glad i'm not alone, but i wonder if him and i both got incorrect rear springs? he remedied by removing the rear spring height adjusters and it looks great. however i would like to run the adjusters since i do want to corner balance and also for the peace of mind of knowing i got the right part. i want to be sure that there wasn't some sort of screw up from bmw.

And I found another forum member who's outcome was great! and he is running the rear adjusters. i have not been able to find many data points around this so hoping if i start my own thread someone else who's experienced the MP coils will chime in?

Please note, the rear adjusters are at their maximum lowest setting. the spring seems to be shorter than the stock spring so that gives me a little relief. but as soon as you couple the spring with the adjusters and adjuster pad, it is about the same length as stock, so you'd expect the ride height to be at the very least same as stock? in my case however (and the other forum member), the ride height increases in the rear.

the front is perfectly fine. i hope that there are others here who have gone through installing this kit.

thanks.

As I said in the other thread.
All springs are the same and the adjuster fits just fine but should be placed at the top.

You can see it in all the illustrations in the install PDF too.

https://www.baum-bmwshop24.de/downlo...rk_m2_f87.pdf/

Edit: tell the other member too as I guess he is running his springs upside down?

Goddamn it man u are right and I'm a fucking idiot!! THANK U! In fact a tech from my dealership just got back to me and said the same thing u did. He also texted me screen shots of the instructions for USA. I will post here. Since no one seems to have them here unless you are a dealership.

I am going to flip the fuckers in the next hour or so and will reply back.

Thanks again.

fixed

Ok so reason for the rear height issue was INSTALLER ERROR. yes my fucking fault. well, i sort of blame bmw for not shipping their kit with goddamn instructions!

above was pics of my car with the spring adjuster installed at the bottom and clearly that stacks the height and is incorrect.

so here you go guys... instructions for the m performance coilover install.

What are those heights front and rear vs how low they can go?? That rear height looks very similar to stock.

What is your setting on the front axel?
Seams lower than the 595 mm as stated in the instruction.
Have the Mperformance coilover kit myself.

Front can go additional 10 mm if the ride height of 595 mm is followed (see instruction)
For the rear you will reach max when the setting of 600 mm is made (see instruction)
I basically came up with following based on my M2
Front: lowered 25 mm, can go down to 35 mm
Rear: lowered 20 mm, this is max.

You have endless settings and adjustability to suit every drivers needs.
I have the standard setting and it's firm.
However I always had cars with modified suspensions so maybe I am not the correct guy to answer

They are awesome in terms of feel. Will really know once I get it out on the track but that'll be in the spring

The front is low. Not final product, taking to corner balance later this week where they'll raise the front.

I am still a bit disappointed in the rear ride height as it's barely lower than stock. Tempted to remove the adjusters but not sure yet, will see if it settles a little lower.

Handling is fantastic tho, the mp coils seem to be excellent. I also have ground control camber plates installed, camber is critical for me since the car will be primary for the track.

It's actually fairly common for them to NOT come with instructions. You made a simple error that's doesn't cause any damage. Glad you got it sorted.

Which doesn't make much sense. My LR lift kit has no instructions, springs never go in the way they came out either. Even the pros get it wrong

All dealers have step by step instructions for all BMW M Performance items in their system. They are supposed to be dealer installed anyway (if you ask BMW) so no need to add them to the boxes.

For instance the instructions have a page labeled "Printout for customer" with some instructions on settings and such things.

If item J is indeed how the height adjusters are, they need to go on the top after you remove the OEM spring retaining cup and isolator.

Have you been on the track with these yet? How is the DD stiffness compared to stock?

Yesterday, I installed the MP coilovers. But my rears are sitting 605 mm (with 2 people on board). And I can't lower it anymore. The fronts are sitting 600 mm. There is more room for adjustment at the fronts. But i prefer to maintain the 5 mm difference between front and rears. Can anybody chime in? thanks!
