Nice. How does this compare to the F10?

So the only models apart probably from the 7/8 and maybe the X7 to use carbon core will be the Z5 afaik.

As a result of the strict lightweight construction philosophy, the weight of the body has been reduced by around 46 kg / 101 lbs over the predecessor F10, but crash safety has been further improved.

A boot lid made entirely of Aluminum has been used for the first time on the G30. As a result, a weight
reduction of 4.2 kg / 9.5 lbs was achieved over the F10.

M5 will likely be compromised of the same materials except for the roof, trunk, driveshaft. I see these components being carbon in the next iteration.

E60 is worth talking about too.

Fully aluminium front frame.

True, the front structure of the G30 has more in common with the E60 than the F10.

E60 was such a beast. Glad to see the G30 is getting the weight down. F10 was amazing IMO. I think it was beautiful but the driving experience went the opposite direction of the E39 and E60

It does has its drawbacks

From BMW at the time of the E60:
Quote:
On the one hand, an aluminum body section offers reduced shielding against
external electrical radiation, making it necessary for separate shielding of the wiring harnesses and electronic control units.

On the other hand, riveted and bonded aluminium components do not always
provide a guaranteed circuit to ground.
This results in individual front end components being connected (in production) with small EMC safety weld seams and in the event of repair, with grounding straps.

Three pieces of carbon? That's a pretty damn liberal use of the term "Carbon Core"!

Progressive. The next gen 3 series will be more liberal in its use of aluminum, too.

Thanks for clarifying. The first pic was misleading.

I wonder how the G30 will perform in euroncap and IIHS crash tests in particular the small offset that the F10 ,well lets be honest , failed in .
