Oil Temp

Hi Guys,
Just curious, I have , what a thought was a sport package car, as I have sport seats and paddles, and my vin has the "hot Climate version" package? I looked under the hood last week to look at installing my JB4 and do not remember seeing the external cool part of the oil housing. Then this morning my oil temps were hitting 250? It's only 55 Deg's out and a wasn't driving really that hard, is this normal. I know on my G37 I had a oil cooler and temps never got over 210 even if I driving hard and like 90-95 deg's out.

Normal operating temps are between 230F and 250F. So you are in the normal range.. The turbo charged N55 will run a bit hotter than the NA motor in the G37.

FYI paddles and sports seats are pretty much standard in all LCI E92s. Hot climate package does not mean you will have to oil cooler..

As stated by Delta, you're within normal operating range. I don't think it really needs to be stated but.. this is a turbo vehicle. They like to run 'hot' and they work best under these conditions to ensure optimal performance--we tend to walk on a 'thin line', but nothing to be alarmed about.

Even a little 3rd gear pull will quickly raise temps from 240F to 250F. Consider getting an oil change if you haven't recently had one, as I notice a direct correlation of my temps depending on OCI (I average 5k-7k miles) and how many pulls I can do before temps rise. As I near my OC, I personally notice less pulls raise the temps faster than shortly after a fresh OC. With that said however, 250F and even just slightly beyond directly half is safe--depending on how you're driving.

You only need to be alarmed when you see the needle edging past half and it's not going down long after you're done with spirited driving. Our DME's are pretty good at protecting our engines--it will cut power or go into limp mode long before you're in a critical engine state.

250f are track temps. anything north of this figure, your car is overheating.

synthetic oil operates most efficiently in the 210-230f range. expect slightly higher temperatures on average compared to a naturally aspirated engine

i find that removing my plastic engine cover during warm weather helps keeps temperatures right where they should be. highly recommended for track use.

Sport seats and paddles are not standard on E92 LCI's. Use a vin lookup tool or pm me your vin and I'll let you know if it was ordered with the sports package or if certain sports package items were chosen OR if they were swapped in.

I'm in Australia and ATM we are having day after day of 40c (104f). I do daily highway driving to and from work at 120kph for around 30 to 35km, aircon on, music up and enjoying the drive. I am seeing no more than 98c (208f) water temp and 115c (239f) oil temp on my AWRON gauge. Air intake temp is up at around 40c. Warm up is a bit quicker with about 6 to 8 km needed to reach around 87c (190f) before I put my foot into it if needed.

My 2011 e90 oil temp hovers around 245F with normal driving. it will raise to 250F when I start driving the car hard. Also I havent noticed my temps being any different between oil changes. To add this is in any climate -20F to 95F outside temperature.
