Don't know if this has been shown before but...

BMW 340i

It's swedish I know but the guy who took the photo says it's defenitly a V8 engine by the sound... And since they can squeeze down a V8 in the M3, why not... Or is his ears just decieved by the 3.0 turbo engine? I dunno, what do you think?

Hell, if Brabus found a way to put a 7.3Liter V12 in a E-class, there must be someway to get a V12 into an E90.

I think a 340i with a V8, but with less power/ more luxury than the future V8-powered M3 would make a lot of sense, particularly in the US, where V8s are more common. It would also match the Audi S4 and RS4. And future V8 C-class models as well.

But I do not expect that to happen right away. There could be some stop-gap 335i as rumored, with 300+ HP, just to catch up in the power race with the Japanese competition.

Just MHO.

340i: won't happen. The press release info on the N54 specifically points out the turbocharged straight six is 70 kg lighter than the 4.0L V8. I don't think that comparison would be made for absolutely no reason. Balance and weight are pretty important...plus, no doubt the V8 would be more expensive to manufacture than the turbo I6.

Regarding the sound: it is entirely possible (perhaps downright likely) that there are M3 test mules running around with similar appearance and trim to the 335i test mules.

Sorry to dissapoint, but the McLaren engine only had about 630-690hp (depending on spec)
