Coding to Hi-Fi or DSP?

Hi Everyone,

After reading countless threads about the EQ in the base E90 stereo, it's safe to say I'm confused. Here is where I'm at.

I know the 6 speaker base system sucks, I can hear that it has absolultely awful treble, mids, and the bass lacks if you turn it up any volume. I plan to evenutally add tweeters, amps, new underseat woofers, and door speakers.

Right now, my friend is giving me his 8" sub including a built in amp and enclosure, so I would like to install this amp & sub now for as little money as possible, until I have the cash to fully revamp my system. After researching, it looks like somehow I have to get a flat signal from the HU.

Option 1. Recode my headunit to Hi-fi (has pros and cons)

First off, can I even recode a 2011 Professional HU to HI-fi? I have been reading that some say it isn't possible. If it is, can I do it with NCS Expert?
Second, I do not have PDC, but apparently my BT call audio will become extremely quiet after the recode since all the signals coming from the HU are low powered (the correct term is escaping me right now..).

Other than those two concerns, the HU recode makes the most sense as it is the most cost effective solution, and presents a great way to upgrade the system at a later date.

Option 2. Buy a DSP to convert the EQ'd signal to a flat signal

This option would basically be me tapping the underseat woofer and running it to the back where my DSP would convert the signal to flat and then run it to my amp. The only issue with this setup is that the only device everyone is talking about, or seems to be any good is the JL cleansweep. It costs $500 plus tax, and paying $500 to install a FREE sub is just ridiculous. Someone told me that a cheaper, LC2i would be sufficient for getting rid of the terrible EQ on the HU. Does anyone have any input on this device, if it will do what I'm looking for.

What is the best way to install this sub for the least amount of money? Any input is appreciated!

If you are just adding a sub then what your saying is kind of confusing.
You never mention what your going to add to the I assume base system
to bring the rest of the system to a decent state.
The reason to recode to Hi Fi is to add and amp and better speakers
bring the base system up to a decent level without having to add
a cleansweep or DSP . Some people do it to feed a more balanced signal
low level signal into a DSP.
I think there is now follow on for the cleansweep but its pretty expensive
you might as well get something like the Helix 82dsp which includes decent
per channel output and superior dsp.
The issue of adding sub is a separate subject .
But if you add a sub and sub amp without upgrading the rest of the system
it won't be able to keep up.
You may need an icoma cable to actually recode to Hi Fi .

I don't think you need anything to de eq the sub because its a sub
it doesn't do that wide of a frequency range. See first link. Its the
high frequency range of the base system that is most of the problem
in regards to eq.

ctuna,

At the moment all I want to do is add a sub to the base system because the sub was given to me for free, and heck, I might as well use it. I want to do this as low cost as possible.

Sometime down the road I will replace the speakers, add an amp, and tweeters. I was thinking that if I recoded the head unit I could have the 6 speakers running on a flat EQ and then add the sub I was given in the back.
