M2 vs Lexus RC F

Hello, this is my first post here. I joined this forum because obviously I got an M2 now and I am very happy with the decision. Before the M2, I had leased a Lexus IS 250 and I really liked Lexus because of the reliability. About 2 months before I returned the car, I had been dead set on buying a used RC F, because I wanted to stick with Lexus, but after seeing the M2 at the LA Auto Show and seeing that it wasn't too expensive like the M3/M4, I started to think of the M2. After test driving both the M2 and RC-F, I knew I wanted the M2. So now, I got the M2 of course.

But just looking back, even though I am very happy with the M2 and I have no regrets, I do have some nostalgia and miss having that Lexus. So I wanted to see a comparison between the M2 and RC-F since the RC-F is often being compared to the M4 and the RC-F always falling short to the M4.

I saw the "Leaving Lexus" thread in the M4 forums, but I'd to hear from fellow M2 owners opinions on M2 vs RC-F since it seems fairer than M4 vs RC-F. M2 was definitely more fun to drive for me than the RC-F, but the V8 and Torque Vectoring Differential on the RC-F really appealed to me then.

What are your guys' thoughts?

Welcome to the forums!

I've never driven the RC-F, was never really interested in the exterior of the car, I always found the outside to be to busy for my taste. Way to many cuts and angles.

RC F is not a very good car, check the reviews.

Very heavy...

I looked into the RCF as well when I was looking to buying a new car. I thought it looked pretty cool till I saw the front grill. The new Lexus look of the front grill on all their cars isn't appealing to me. The interior is nice but I like the simplicity of the M2 interior. Also the RCF isn't as small and nimble as the M2. Just something about small cars in stick shift is always a fun factor.

Love the form factor of the RCF. Was also h ghost considering at one point. The few things that deterred me from it though:

- Does not come in a manual transmission
- Navigation screen is not high res looks dated
- That early 90s mouse pad to control your nav cursor...what was Lexus thinking?
- The car felt no where near as torquey as the m4.

Conclusion. Stick with your M2, afterall it is the baby brother to the M3/M4. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You made the right decision so don't look back. There is a reason why there are so many RCFs on the lot at Lexus. Great design and poor execution. Such a shame as it could have been a great platform. Just my 2 cents.

I toyed with the RC-F early on, but soon dropped it from my list. Reviews were not great when comparing to sports cars. But then, I would not consider it a sports car... more like a high performance luxury coupe.

More of a competitor to the M4 with its price point and horsepower. And loses to the M4 in pretty much all reviews for handling and acceleration (is 400lb heavier!). Your M2 would obviously be a whole other world in terms of driving feel.

IMO RC F is a nice GT car , but not truly a sports oriented car. It is just your personal preference. (Lexus is heavily discounting these cars, 12000 - 15000 below MSRP is totally doable with that car, friend just grabbed white fully loaded 16 RC F for 14000 below MSRP, if that's going to factoring your decision)

I really like to have a Lexus vehicle (or any Japanese vehicle) as a reliable daily driver that I know will get me down the road without issues years and years to come.

I used to have an IS250 as well. I like Lexus but they are boring vehicles to drive, simple as that. Nothing exciting at all to drive. They all feel the same to me, IS250, GS350, etc. My neighbor has a RCF and he let me drive it. It was a nice car but again bland. I felt little weird driving the IS250 as well because the IS was feminine looking.

RCF is a good starting point but Lexus dropped the ball because of the weight in that car.

Im not a fan of the RC-F, so I believe you made the right choice. To me the lexus looks dated already with a cheap body kit installed on it. It will not age very well. Go take the M2 for a spirited drive and come back with a smile on your face and don't think twice about it, you did good.

My bestfriend has a brand new 2016 RCF. We compare them both a lot and they both have their merits. The nicest thing about the RCF is the exhaust note with the GThaust exhaust, something about that V8 noise and his red leather interior is nice. Other than that the M2 is the way to go, my car pulls on him also. Even he agrees M2 is best. lol

What did you think of the cockpit? I found it super busy and somewhat confusing.

But agree about the V8 - that thing sounds amazing! I cannot wait to hear it on the LC500.
