Hello everyone,

I have a bit of an issue that is driving me absolutely nuts.
I had a setup with a JBL MS8 and a Dynavin N6. They were hooked up directly via RCA.

I did have a Technic harness but I bypassed the power/ground and Rca audio inputs.

I didn't like the Dynavin so going back to stock I'm having issues where there is annoying static. It becomes less if I lower the the gain.

I have tried different grounding points to no avail (battery and factory grounding point on rear fender)

I never had an issue when using the dynavin now im stumped. The OEM hifi amp works just fine

What can I do... i need my static free music back

Well wouldn't that suggest your stock head unit is bad.

It works just fine with the oem amp though. The static is only when connecting to the ms8

Have you tried hooking up another source directly to the MS8.
I guess the Dynavin counts but it has normal RCA's I think not
a differential output, if you hooked through the RCA's and not the
speaker outs.

Yeah, i hooked up my ipod directly to it and it sounds perfect. But anything through the car has static at low volume

taibanl and used to have one of those.
There is a big ms-8 thread here somewhere you might
be able to find some of the old experts on ms-8 there.
You shouldn't actually have to put anything inbetwen but
maybe a differential to single output adapter would help.

Here is a far shot but I had a very similar issues. For a couple of years I had a whine and a bad radio signal. All of it was caused by a dash cam power supply that I had hard wired into my car. As soon as I removed that specific power supply, QUIET. Try disconnecting anything plugged into a cigarette lighter or anything you may have hard wired in before you give up on your deck.

I wish it was as easy as that my friend. Other than the ms8 the car is bone stock. Nothing plugged in sadly.

Out of desperation on an E46 forum some guy suggested to reground the HU and amp at a common point on the chassis. Would you guys have any advice or comments? I know the whole body is technically negative, just need a solid connection. I'm debating to run a small wire from the front to the back of the car just to see if this cures it.


By the way all your help is hugely appreciated!

No problem, As a quick test take a piece of wire and ground the case of the RCA to the same point that your MS-8 is grounded. (the outside conductor of your RCA cable) If this clears it up you may have a bad LOC or even a bad ground overall. I have had success with using the under floor AMP/TCU/COMBOX mounting bolts for grounds, give it a try.

Also, you did not mention what factory set up you have. If it is the normal stereo without external amp, bypass the Technic harness and try wiring the MS-8 directly to the deck speaker outputs.
