I'm trying to find a replacement mirror for my Japan spec E90 2007.

I've been told that if you use the wrong radio frequency mirror the key will not work

Can someone explain what the "Radio Control" option is in mirrors????

My car has option: S876 Radio frequency 315 MHz (USA spec frequency)

I assume you have homelink? Garage door opening buttons (3 buttons bottom left) if so thats most likely the 'radio control' i doubt bmw designed a reciever for the remote in the mirror. I personally swapped my mirror without issue

Convertibles have the key fob receiver in the mirror.

The other models do not and the mirrors are largely interchangeable.

It would be nice to know what the "ETC" stands for in that listing.

There's a list at the top of the part page explaining the name of each.

GTO is garage door opener
ETC is tolls (Japan). But the "radio control" I wasn't sure about.

EC = Electrochromatic
Radio = Radio-wave remote control
LED = Light-emitting diode for
alarm system
GTO = Integrated remote
control/garage door opener
FLA = High-beam assistant
Compass = Digital compass display
ETC = Electronic Toll Collection
TLC = Out-of-lane warning

I think it is what opjose said, radio receiver in the mirror for convertibles.

opjose so it won't matter what frequency or if I use a UK/Euro spec mirror then in a 315mhz AU/Japan/USA spec sedan huh?

What are the last seven numbers of your VIN?

Also where are you located? UK?
