B58 340i/440i Downpipe Install

Just wanted to get some input from those that have installed the downpipe themselves. Any advice or things I should know about before trying to do it myself at home without a lift? I would be going catless, so anything I need to do or buy extra for the O2 sensor? I have a jb4 to clear the code so not worried about that. Probably will be going with the VRSF 4.5" simply because it's the lowest priced one.

Thanks, anything you can tell me is appreciated.

I have heard the N54 was horrible, and the N55 wasn't much better. I've also heard that the B58 was the easiest people have ever experienced. Anything I should plan on doing in terms of an extra bung or anything for the O2 since it'll be catless?

It's deff. Easier than n55 and n55
I just did it last week.
From under the hood I was able to unplug O2 sensor plug and remove the 2 bolts holding the downpipe in place and also loosen the v-band clamp on the turbo.
Then just go underneath loosen clamp that holds downpipe onto exhaust, and take off bolt that holds exhaust up. It's right behind the downpipe/exhaust connection.
And finagle the downpipe out. Took me little over a hour.

can it be done with the front wheels on ramps? i'm OCD about marring things up and I don't have a lift at home.

It can be done but a lift will make your life easier
Here is a review we got today

Mike was very helpful getting my order in. The JB4 and BMS intake take a whole 5-10 minutes to install. Intake makes a noticeable whistle by itself, but the JB4 unleashes the beast with the b58. Catless downpipe was difficult to install on the ground. Ended up taking it to a lift to finish the install. Had to remove the center brace of the car to drop the exhaust enough to slide it onto the downpipe. Pro tip for install: remove the air box and loosen the vband and remove the sensors and bolts from up top. Much easier to remove the nuts and bolts from above.

Anything is better than an AWD n54. We ended up sawzalling one of the downpipes in half to get it out because we didn't feel like dropping the whole subframe to make room.

b58 should be ezpz compared to that

So I am gathering b58 is easier then n55? I remember trying to get the OEM dp out on my n55 335xi and we gave up. Had to pay a shop to do it. Hoping when the time comes we can do the b58 ourselves.

I have yet to hear of a bad experience with the b58 DP install. Looking forward to hopefully purchasing and installing soon.

If your car is a XDrive and you're installing an ER 4.5 DP, get some washers for the subframe ready or it won't clear properly.

I don't have xdrive, mines RWD. So not worried about the problems others have mentioned on these forums. Thank you for the heads up though.

I did the downpipe in a total of 1 hour.

I rolled the car onto ramps. Took the stock one off and put in the ER downpipe. I never took the exhaust off either. Still stunned how easy of a install it was....
