530e 12v battery charging

My i3 has a small 12v battery for running accessories and it's charge is maintained from the high voltage propulsion battery. On my 2015 528i, I use a maintenance charger to keep the 12v battery fully charged while idle, as the "regenerative charging" system does not do a good job of keeping the 12v battery charged in short trip city driving.

My question: Does anyone know if the 530e will have a similar maintenance charge from the high voltage battery to the 12v battery? I understand that BMW has been automatically replacing the 12v batteries in the 528i at the second service because of premature battery failure due to inadequate charging of the 12v battery.

Havent got the G30 documents for the Hybrid yet, but if its similar to the 7 Series like a lot of other G30 systems then it uses a charger in the trunk to look after the auxiliary battery.

The charging unit is controlled by the DME to charge the battery at any time it is required, including when the car is plugged into its external charger.
It is connected to the high voltage system via a DCtoDC converter.

Thanks--that's good. Keeping a charge on the hi voltage battery will keep the 12v battery topped up, as well. I noticed in the 5 series reveal last week that the non-e 12v battery is out of the spare tire well and back in the front on the passenger side of the firewall. Guess that's what allows a "delete" option for the run flats and a mandatory $150 "add" for space saver spare. I doubt that many dealers will stock cars with the non-run flat tires, so it means that I will have to order mine, when the time comes.

No, that is a smaller auxiliary battery in the engine compartment.
The main battery is still in the trunk.

Depending on equipment fitted the regular G30 can actually have 3 batteries
Same as G11 7 Series

I cannot say with 100% certainty about the 530e, but the PHEV hybrid system is probably nearly identical to my 2017 X5 40e (and the 330e and 740e). For the X5 40e the 12V batteries are charged off either the high voltage battery or the onboard charger. I've tried putting a CTEK charger on the 12V terminals and it always shows fully charged. The X5 40e (N20 engine) is not part of the service bulletin which automatically replaces the 12V batteries at the 2nd service.

If you're interested in the 530e, there's no spare tire option on the ordering guide and all tire options are run-flats. I assume that's because the battery pack is where the spare tire would've been. If you really want non-run-flats and a spare tire, you'll have to go with an i car, not the 530e.

Thanks to all. I saw that the delete run flat option was removed from the 530e and suspected that the well was being used for other purposes. Just drove a new 530 with the M Performance package and 19" run-flats. The ride was much better than with the 18" Run Flats that came with my F10. Others have stated that each generation of run flats gets better and it looks like the G30 run flats fit that prediction--to the extent that I will not feel the need to take off the run flats when I go for a lease pull forward for the 530e this Dec. Thanks for the real life info on the 12v. charging. Guess I can retire my Cetek next Dec.

Did the 530i you drove also have Dynamic Damper Control or was it standard suspension? That alone may mute the feeling of run flat coarseness, so I'm curious if your feedback was with or without DDC as I'm contemplating whether or not to get DDC on a 530e when I order hopefully next week.

It had the "M performance package". Don't know if that includes DDC. The new configurator is so difficult to use that I won't even try to go back and look until I have something else to look for (like when the 530e configurator comes up--I know it's up on the forum, but BMW doesn't have it on it's web site, yet).
