Is the comfort access really worth it?
Hey guys,
i am ordering a car soon i know that i am getting a 330i, SG w/ terra and aluminum. I am getting the premium package, step, and sat prep. AND either heated seats and comfort access or just the cold weather package. So do you think it is really worth it for me to get the comfort access or should i just get the cold weather pkg. Later Ben |

I really really like mine, but it is great for me since I'm female and don't have to dig for keys in my purse. I've found it is really convenient when I have school books in my hands, or groceries, or shopping bags. You have nothing to stick in, just hit the button, and no keys dangling on your dash. It's also just a very cool feature that a lot of people notice.

1/2 the time when I am unlocking the car, I wished I had Comfort Access, especially when my hands are occupied. If both of my hands are occupied, I'll have to 'feel' for the button on the key fob in my pocket to unlock the doors. And then when you unlocked the doors with your key fob still in your pocket and you go in the car trying to start it, you found out that your key fob is still in your pocket and then you have to dig them out.
But since mine was a pre-Sept built and in Canada, there is no Comfort Access available for the 325i. So since you are in the USA, why not get the comfort access when it's available at a 'low' cost? Highly recommended! |

I think it is just about the coolest thing on the car. I tell people the car recognizes me using biosensors, and that no one else can open the car or drive it because it only recognizes my DNA. People are stupid.
Seriously, it is really cool. It is also quite useful. Not having to dig in your pocket for keys with your hands full is nice. I guess heated seats would be nice if you live in a really cold climate and have to park outside. I always park in my garage or a parking deck, so my car isn't really exposed to the weather except for when it is running.

The answer is still "yes" and will continue to be so until it's standard or BMW raises the price of CA.

IMHO, fold down seats are far more useful than CA. If you get CW pack you get fold downs and heated seats. The first time you need to fit something bulky in there and you can't fold the seats you will be cursing your decision to get CA, which is a gimmick compared to the pragmatism of fold-down seats. Of course if you can afford both, get em.
Its pretty gay that they make you pay to put your seats down, but thats the price you pay for bmw... |

I don't know how much it is in the US, but in the UK the Comfort Access on its own (not part of a pack) is £450
or $787USD Thats why I will be reaching for my keys as usual. |

I know this has been discussed ad nauseam in previous threads, but when I was trying to research this I was disappointed about how little the brochure, website and SAs were able to tell me about this nice feature.
So in short, here are a few points about the utility of Comfort Access (CA): 1) The key fob still works to lock and unlock doors, the way it does with cars without CA. If you hold the key fob open button long enough, windows and sunroof will open. 2a) To unlock your door, either use the button on your key fob, or simply walk up to the car, and place your fingers between the door handle and door (the way you would if you were about to pull the handle). The car unlocks! Factory alarm (if installed) will beep twice indicating it's off. 2b) If someone (i.e., your passenger) is standing next to you (and I mean NEXT to you), he/she can open the door by doing the same (2a). 3) To start the engine, no need to insert key. Simply press the Start/stop button. Push in clutch with 6MT 4) To turn on stereo without starting engine, push Start/stop button without pushing in clutch. 5) To stop engine, press Start/stop button once. Engine stops, but stereo keeps playing. Press Start/stop button again and stereo stops, or simply leave it on. Stereo will automatically stop when you lock doors. 6) When you exit the vehicle, touch the grooves atop the door handles. The doors lock, stereo turns off and factory alarm (if installed) will beep once. 7) Hold your finger down on the grooves and power mirrors fold inward (premium package). 8) Hold your finger down longer and the sunroof and windows close. 9) If you lock your car with CA or key fob, and the trunk is still open, alarm will not set until trunk is closed. If trunk is closed last, that will signal the alarm to activate (one beep). 10) CA will not allow you to lock the key in the car. One time the key fell out of my pocket and fell between the seat and center hump. When I tried to exit the vehicle and lock it. It wouldn't let me. Great feature! You never have to insert your key into anything but your pocket to open, close or start your car. No more fumbling through your pockets or purse to look for your key. Just get into your car and press the button. This is what makes it such a great convenience feature! |

Can you open any door with CA, assuming you're holding the fob, or just the driver's door? Any warning when the battery is low on the fob? Anyone have any issues with CA working this winter with snow or ice on the door handles? |

Completely agree with this.... You will not know what you did without the rear folding seats in the car. The truck, while bigger than before, still lacks space for long large items because of the size of the wheel wells. Hell I had to fold down one rear seat to just fit a standard sized rake in the trunk!! (BTW I have the full Cold weather pack and CA).

I love the CA - though I also have the fold down seats as well. One thing I did notice about CA though. If you're waxing/washing your car make sure the key is nowhere nearby. I kept locking/unlocking the car while waxing.

After reading all the threads about CA I got a pretty good feel for what to expect and how it worked. i initially ordered without but decided it would be useful and went for it.
Considering the small issue with CA and washing the car I can understand if it acts up when physically washing around the door handles but does it act up in the sole presence of wax or water? If so does/could it do the same in rain/snow/wet?
