Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra)

Hi guys,

I am thinking to wrap the front bumper as soon as I take delivery (or maybe shortly after). Is it better to wait a few weeks before wrapping the car w/ paint protection film? I assume the paint would be fully cured by the time I take delivery.. is that right?

Thanks!

The sooner, the better.. wait a couple weeks and you could end up with rock chips as soon as you roll out the dealer.. I took delivery of my car and 30 minutes after ownership I dropped at the XPEL installer..

So the paint should be fully cured by the time I pick up my car, correct?
If so, I will do it as well... will get it installed as soon as I get the car Thx

No need to wait on factory paint. It is baked and fully cured.

FAQ from PRO-TECT, a premier PPF shop in Vegas.

What should I consider when installing film on repainted surfaces?**Repainted surfaces can be a touchy subject as it is not as durable as the factory finish. Factory finishes are baked onto the surface at 350+ degrees which allows a much harder surface and better cohesion bond. Repainted surfaces can be baked only at 150 degrees to prevent damage to the vehicles components and therefore the surface can be more susceptible to lifting, however, if it is a quality job then the burden of concern should not be so much.

I'm dropping mine at Extreme Colors the day I pick up at PCD. I have a 700 mile trip home - not taking any chances.

The one concern I can think of is that there may have been some touch up done at the dealer or port to fix minor chips/scrapes that occurred during delivery. I agree factory paint would be well cured. Perhaps you can ask the dealer if that has occurred because you are planning on getting PPF right away.

There's a shop in Jacksonville that's kind of on the way to my house. Maybe 10 miles from the dealer. I may consider this. Much better than to keep the original paint on the front than to buy Dr Colorchip another yacht (i know, it's not that expensive).

I understand prices will vary by installer, but what's ballpark on what I might pay (before I bug the guy for a quote).

I only consider wrapping the front bumper, and the quotes I've gotten are from $500 - 650. Films are either Avery or Xpel.

Thanks. I'd only want the front bumper as well. I'll get a quote from my local guy and see if it falls in line with that.

Yup, as everyone else mentioned. Paint is fully cured when car keys are yours. Get the PPF as soon as you can.

I just got a quote from my guy @ $490 for Xpel. That seems pretty good. He also mentioned that installation\drying time would be about 3.5 hours. That's important as I'd drive the 10 miles right from my dealer. I'll be so dying to drive the car that 3.5 hours will seem like a freakin' week.

What are people's thoughts on also getting Xpel on the headlights?

I'm getting the whole car done now for €2100, because you never know what dickhead might want to Key the car or whatever so I decided to get everything done even lights, it's worth it when spending so much on a car 😁

Yeah, I don't care if I have to wait another 2 days in SC when I pickup. I'm taking it straight to Extreme Colors Greenville for the highway package at a minimum.

It's better to invest in protection now then to cough up repair costs later for a battle worn bumper.

I did the clear bra and window tint as soon as I could schedule the appointment.
