F30 335I N55 Oil Change Help

Hello,

So i changed my oil today.. after buying the car a few days ago.....

it was the worst oil ive ever seen... super dark black and in the filter housing it looked like chocolate fudge in oil form....

should i do another oil change in the next month or so or am i okay now?

5w-30 fully synthetic is what i just put in (mobile 1 i believe)

You may want to run some engine flush to clean out the gunk

Did you change it hot? How many miles on the car? If the prior maint has not been kept up I would do it again and make sure the car has been drive for 30+ minutes to solidify as much of the gunk/deposits as possible.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, I would change it every 1k miles till the oil clears up.

So my car was sitting for like 20 mins after being warm when I changed the oil.... the filter housing had oil that looked gunky / chunky almost....

I do plan on keeping the car for a while.... I'm probably gonna change it again in maybe 1k miles to clean out the stuff

^^^ I think that is a fine idea. And Mobil 1 or Castrol are both fine IF they are BMW Long Life 01 approved. Liqui Moly and Motul are definitely other options out there, they may be just a tick above the others. I use Castrol and have been fine for the last three years at 5K intervals.

Sounds like the previous owner hadn't changed it in awhile. This synthetic oil seems to turn black quickly on forced-induction engines (particularly if tuned), as my previous 2007 335i's oil looked that way at each 7500-mile change, although there was no sludge in the oil filter. Also, short trips that don't allow the oil to reach operating temperature and "boil" out any moisture can make oil a little sludgy, especially in cold/damp weather and with longer change intervals.

I wouldn't worry about it. Don't waste oil, just let the filter do its job and change out at 5k miles (because you're not currently using LL01) and then use LL01 whenever the CBS calls for the change.

BMW (Shell GTL) dealer oil is advisable since it's relatively cheap.
