Brakes Squealing AGAIN even when warm.
Morning Gents and perhaps Ladies,
I have had this persistent issue. brake squeal at low speeds, even after driving say 25 miles. So far dealer has replaced rear pads and rotors. went back...still squealing. dealer performed TSB work and cleaned the front and back pads and rotors. pads and rotors all 4 corners are nearly new. now squealing again...do i take it back again for same issue??

Mine does it also. Lightly braking even in reverse. I just bought the car and it's under original warranty. I was told that it was normal by the BMW dealer I bought the car from. Sales man said his 4 series does it to.
I guess I should take mine in to have them look at it before the warranty runs out. |

Back in early 2014, there was a TSB for the rear brake caliper mounting brackets...once the dealer installed the new ones, the rear-brake squeal stopped and has never come back.

My hope is that they will replace my pads and rotors and be done with it. I have an appointment this coming Friday to have them look at it and replace the gas cap. There are some groves in the rotors. So we will see what they say. Makes me think they just put new pads on and called it good.

My 2016 squealed like a mo-fo at 5000 miles. I ended up swapping the pads for EBC Red Stuff, and no noise (at least so far).
One thing I noticed when I swapped the pads was there was no lube anywhere on the rear caliper/pads. Fronts had lube on the pistons. Never had any noise from my E90 though. |

after several service visits i was told that performance brakes squeaking is "normal" and "working as designed" it was annoying me so i took it to a different dealership for service and this is what they did replaced the front with "updated pads" and cleaned the rear ask your service advisor about it i have the blue M sport brakes

Same reason race car brakes are loud as shit. Don't order the performance brakes. I kinda like the raw and aggressive sound. |

The difference is Ferrari, Lambo, Audi uses performance pads. The m-sport performance brakes are really just larger calipers with larger pads. The pad material is no different than the normal brakes, and should squeal that bad.
Mine only occurred under really light braking (coming to a stop). Sounded like the old school squeal tab that used to drag on the rotors when the pads were worn out. |

Mine are grey and say "BMW". No squeal. Factory brakes should be totally quiet imo.

I guess it depends what you classify as "performance brakes". The pad material on the BMW has a soft initial bite, and decent fade resistance. They do wear really fast and have a lot of dust as a result.
They are meant to haul the car from autobahn speeds to zero in minimal time, and still be able to brake again (decently). There is a tradeoff between how well the pads can repeatable stop the car, and how hot they need to be to get up to optimal grip (race pads need to be a lot hotter, that's why they aren't recommended on street cars). Regardless, factory pads on a non-track type setup (like M4 GTS) shouldn't be squealing while driving around town. Never had those issues on the E90 platform, with same/similar pad material. I just had loads of brake dust. |
