full digital gauges for 2018?
Is there a way to tell from the order guides for the 2018 530e and M550i xdrive whether those models will offer the full digital gauges? That would give me some hope that this feature makes it to the US 530i/540i next year. That was the only thing that bothered me driving the new G30. Well, that and the smudge and scratch prone shiny black plastic touch points, but I don't see that changing.

Thanks. And sadly 6WB is not in either order guide. How can that be so hard to bring to the U.S., especially to keep up with Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar and Volvo?

The extended ones has more functions and can totally change the entire display
The standard one can only change a small part of the display (For example the numbers by the rev counter cannot change Here is a 7 Series one showing some of what the extended one can do

I don't know what BMW was thinking about the "standard" dash. Some of the numbers are fixed on the two readouts (MPH and RPM), and some of them are digital! It's the strangest looking hybrid dash I've seen in any car at this price point -- for a brand new redesign.
It's like the designer left in the middle of the design, and they couldn't finish it up... |

I'm confident the US is is going to get it and probably starting with March production.
They are going to offer it in the 3 series here as an option I believe starting with March production along with the 4 LCI which will get one as well...no way they will leave it out of the 5. Maybe it was a supply constraint issue at the start of production. I don't like that half digital one. I saw it at my dealer this weekend and it looks weird.

As I understand it, you didn't get the MFD in the F10, in the US, and now some 'half-way' display in the G30. Is there some issue in the US, like non conformity for type approval, or some other legislation or restriction?

The 7 series G12 in the US gets both the full digital dash, and the touch 4 zone climate control, so I don't know.

Need full if I'm going to order lol. Hopefully by June.

If it were to be available on the US-spec G30, I would have expected it to be, at a minimum, an option from the start. Considering it's an option in other markets, I guess we just lose out. I am HAPPY to be proven wrong here, though!

I think BMW has fallen way behind on their implementation of a digital dash - whether its 6WA or 6WB. To me, the whole idea of these dashes is to allow the user to configure the information that is pertinent to them in the way that they desire. Audi and Porsche (on the new Panamera) have done this the best so far. But BMW's implementation is more like a video game, changing colors depending on drive mode but not giving the driver any true customization. It's just silly trying to make the dash pretty rather than functional. And I'm really surprised considering that in general, BMW's tech is the best in the business.
btw, BMW seems determined to force the continuation its traditional two gauge dash design, while the new Panamera allows the driver to move on from its just as traditional five gauge design - if that's what the driver prefers. BMW can and should do better than this!
