Sporadic problems with starting. Sometimes everything OK. Other times everything turns on but engine will not turn over when pressing "start". I can then role-start it or jump wire + to the starter solenoid input to make it start.

Initially thoughts was weak battery or bad connection on poles or power lead going through the frame in the back boot in the wheel arch. Everything of this turns out to be solid. (In addition, since jump wire to starter solenoid works it cannot be this problem).

Next point I am thinking CAS module. Since it is known to cause problems.
However, would you be able to role-start the car if the CAS has a fail? Can it have a fail where it immobilize the physical start switch, but not the starter circuit?

Maybe the first thing trying to change is the starter button instead of the CAS?

I dont have any engine hardware problem. Its in the elec part of the alarm/immobilizer...

Since its an multi engine system, and not a coding(CAS gives most hits on that thread) problem I guess maybe it can be put in the General E90 Sedan / E91 Wagon / E92 Coupe / E93 Cabrio thread if this still is the wrong place?

Very little discussion of software here unless its in regards to the idrive or radio and that is better covered in the idrive and coding subforums.
The above might help some. Should be easy to check the start switch with an
ohm meter. You need to check for codes with a BMW capable scanner as
a first step. See coding section for coding setup or scanner options.

Do you have an alarm most cars don't get the factory alarm its and option.

Things that typically stop the car from starting ,IBS system bad or it thinks
the battery is to low . Sometimes disconnecting the IBS will allow the car
to start.(see first pdf) Pull power to the ibs at the battery or disconnect the
sbd line.

Check the battery make sure you have a full charge on it and load test it.
All kinds of screwy things can happen in these cars if the battery is low
due to the ibs system mostly.

Also the knowledge of the 320 is low here because we didn't get it in either
gas or diesel till the F30 series.
