Top Gear: M3 vs C63 vs RS4 vs IS-F
Very interesting article, i can't figure out which one did they really prefer or which car actually won. Either way, enjoy.

I'm actually happy that there is no winner; because it shows that although M3 still sets the bar for handling/steering, Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes have really stepped up their game and try to offer cars that don't try to be an M3, but focus on their respective strengths.
I agree with their sentiment that most people looking in this segment would be happy with any of the cars. I do find it a bit odd when the article stated that the Lexus IS-F rides "like a limo". Most of the criticism I've read about the IS-F is just the opposite; it makes me wonder if perhaps the suspension was changed for the European market. |

Its too funny, I also love to hear their excuse for the hideous exhaust tips.
Here is a pic of the ugly exhaust that isn't connected to anything. |

From the article:
C63 Pro: Power, Power, Power Con: Too stiff of suspension for DD, Raw and dangerous IS-F Pro: Best drive train, aggressive look, aggressive sound, power, Con: No edge, too comfortable, quad-tip fakery. M3 Pro: Best steering, all around driver's car Con: dull interior, less torque in comparison, ubiquity RS4 Pro: Benchmark of all 4, quattro advantage, Fast and Safe Con: Won't give you joy of power-oversteer from RWD cars Conclusion: Every car is unique, and fits certain driver. So you just have to decide for yourself. He's only leaning towards IS-F at the end because of its novelty. |

[QUOTE]From the article:
M3 Pro: Best steering, all around driver's car Con: dull interior, less torque in comparison, ubiquity [QUOTE] 1) I like the interior as do most of the US car mags. 2) what important and overlooked, but is reflected in some US car mag tests wherin they said the ISF did not live up to its torque rating and the M3 seemed to exceed it, is the fact that the large spread in rpm between TQ peak and HP peak in the M3 gives it a broad, powerfull, and efficient powerband. the ISF TQ and HP peak are so close the powerband is minimized. 3) mine will be rare since I am ordering a color other than AW!

Wow, not only are the exhaust tips ugly but they aren't even functional. As small of a thing as that is, it rates the IS-F even lower in my books. Why would you do something like that? I just don't get it. That's pretty much the definition of factory rice.

Actually, they are functional, they're just not connected. Just like the ones on the R8 and the Murcielago. Regardless, cheesy is cheesy. |

I don't know why you guys are so harsh about the fake exhaust. Yes, it's fake, but IS-F is not the only one doing that. gbb357 already shown some other expensive cars (R8 and the Murcielago) with fake exhausts as well.

gbb357, Nice try.
Quick question. Can you put your hand behind the examples you showed above? I will answer that for you, NO. In the lambo and R8, the exhaust pipes extend into the tips, but float in the tips. They do not attach for heat purposes. On the IS-F the exhaust pips are miles away from the tips. The least they could have done was extend them into the tips like the R8 and Lambo, they don't have to attach. |

Actually, the answer is yes.
It does overlap the tip, not much but it does. The one from Autospies is the early show model prototype. Regardless, my whole point is, the R8 and Murci are disconnected as well just like the IS-F. I never said it did or did not over lap. What exactly is your point anyway? |

And yes it has been confirmed on Lexus Forums, they are not connected on the production cars. And yes you can still put your hand behind the tips, as stated by Lexus forum members going to the dealerships to find out. They do not extend into the tips, period.

I just posted the picture of the R8's exhaust not being connected. When you take the bumper off, the tips are not connected to the exhaust, but it is connected to the bumper. Isn't that enough proof. Like i said, the ISF exhaust is not connected just like on the R8 and the Murci.
Here are tips on the R8 that is connected on the bumper cover. And here are the actual exaust tips that are not connected on the bumper tips. |

gbb357,
Please learn how to read, slow down and read what I wrote above. Did I ever say they attached. My quote from above: "In the lambo and R8, the exhaust pipes extend into the tips, but float in the tips. They do not attach for heat purposes. On the IS-F the exhaust pipes are miles away from the tips. The least they could have done was extend them into the tips like the R8 and Lambo, they don't have to attach." Now let me state it clear for you, the R8 exhaust does not attach to the tips. The pipes extend into the tips and floats in the tips. For heat purposes, it would melt the bumper if it did attach. YOU CAN NOT PUT YOUR HAND BEHIND THE R8 EXHAUST. Here is a is a quick diagram, since you seem to be a visual learner. My whole point as it always was, is that the IS-F exhaust pipes stop well before the tips. Last edited by hellrotm; 04-28-2008 at 10:05 PM.. |

How about you learn how to read yourself. All i am saying is the tips on the R8 and Murci are not connected to the exhaust either, that is it. I never claimed or said that they don't over lap or over lap , extend or do not extend, or float or not float. I'M JUST SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOT ATTACHED, THEY ARE DISCONNECTED JUST LIKE THE IS-F. AND I NEVER SAID THAT YOU CLAIMED OR SAID THEY ARE CONNECTED EITHER.
P.S. The whole argument or issue is the ISF's exhaust are not connected to the tips. I just pointed out that it is the same with the R8 and Murcielago. Nobody ever mentioned about whether they over lap or not and i could care less either. So let me ask you again, is the exhaust on the R8 connected on the tips or not, the answer is NO! End of discussion. |
