2007 335d injector problem - car stalling

Hi guys,

When driving, my car keeps stalling, error code 4460, 'injector cylinder 6 short circuit to plus' what does this mean, has anyone else had this issue. I thought these engines were bullet proof!

Car covered 140k and been running absolutely fine

Full BMW service history

Car had been driving fine - seems to be a sudden onset, no prior warning or signs of injector failure

Help please!

It's a relatively common fault. With just the activation on cyl 6 I'd guess you'll just need to replace the injector. Sometimes you get activations on 1-3 cylinders or 4-6 cylinders which can be a wiring problem. As it's just the 1 my money would be in injector.

Thanks for your response - much appreciated

Is it normal for the car to turn off completely even when on the move? I assume it's some sort of safety feature to prevent engine damage :-(

No it's not normal but is a side effect of the M57N2 fuel return system.

You can google it as it's quite complex and I'm tired, but often there can be an internal leak in one or more injectors causing too much pressure in the fuel return which has the knock on effect of shutting down the fuel pump. No fuel going in = engine stalling.

You could maybe try and diagnose this by disconnecting the problem injector. The car will run on 5 but feel rough as anything. Shouldn't stall though.

No worries. It may not be issue, I'm no mechanic but I have owned M57 for over 10 years now. Lovely block but lots of minor issues with it.

Let us know how you get on
