Does the M235i unplugged valve trick work on the 240i?

Just open the valve and unplug it. Tape up the connectors and zip tie it out the way. Takes 5 minutes I did it asap when getting my car.

I thought doing so causes a silent code on the car that the dealer will read next time you bring it in? The flap on my M235i exhaust has started rattling and has been replaced by the dealer two times already. Wish I could just remove the stupid flap altogether.

Not necessarily. Sport mode also pipes more sound through the speakers

That's true but I have coded ASD off and forgot about it.

Not sure if true but the dealer won't care. My dealer recommended it the day I went to pick up the car and I recently took it in to another BMW dealer and they didn't mention anything.

You could delete the valve BTW. I'll be getting new tips welded and planning on having them remove the valve all together.

From my understanding and after testing, the vehicle will open up this valve once the vehicle is warm. That being said, I have heard all kinds of different rumors.

And what's the purpose of the valve anyway? Is it just a gimmick?

I suspect its actually emissions related. It snaps closed immediately on a cold start of the engine. To increase back pressure maybe? It opens approximately 2 minutes later, so there must be a reason why.

Run the car to open the valve, once it's open turn off the car and you can do everything with the car off.

I believe its mostly for the sounds. A car that roar during spirited driving and yet quiet for neighbors!

What I did was use BimmerLink and coded it Open. When you first start the car, the valve remains close until the engine is slightly warmer and the valve will stay open after. I like it.

I guess I will try Bimmerlink and code it open. Mine never has opened that I can tell. Checked after the car was full temp - it was closed at idle, went into Sport mode - it was closed at idle. Tried Sport + - it was closed at idle.

I just checked yesterday, apparently Bimmercode won't leave the exhaust valve open permanently. You have to use Bimmercode to open the valve, and physically unplug the connection at the valve. That's what I did yesterday, so far no CEL.

It's to be nice to your neighbors. Ford has this option on the Mustang as well. Valve closed, exhaust is quieter.

Correct. It will close on cold star and open 2 or so minutes later. So it does keep it open, just after warm up.

I had pulled the clip connecting the flap shaft to the servo and wired the flap open. It still wasn't loud enough so I replaced the muffler with the M Performance exhaust. No flap, plenty loud and could care less what the neighbors think ;-)

Just installed the M Performance Exhaust on my M 240i. I used the instructions for the Dinan installation to move the valve actuator to another location and left it connected. It still, technically, operates so no opportunity for any codes or faults. I did this exact same thing when I put a Dinan on my 2018 330i. I ran it this way for two years with 0 issues.
