Sound generator in a 530d?

Having driven a demo 530d xDrive since yesterday evening, I was very pleasantly surprised with the sound of the 6 cylinder diesel engine to the point I'm suspecting it has to have a sound generator.

With the windows up, the interior sound resembles a petrol engine of a fairly large capacity, dare I say a V8?

With the windows down, it's definitely more diesel like with a lot of wooshing noises as the blow off valve hisses.

Does anyone know if this model has a fake engine sound coming from the speakers?

Regardless of which way this goes doesn't the fact that you're asking make it irrelevant?

I remember the f31 330d roar was nice too.

Pretty sure it doesn't have a sound generator. When I tried a G30 530d I actually thought my current 535d sounds slightly better, more like the big petrol V8 you mention. The difference may be down to turbo whoosh, different exhaust design or just being run in, but current F10 3 litre diesels definitely don't have a sound generator.

There is no active sound unit listed on the parts system for the G30, unlike for the models we know have active sound like the 3 Series.
