2 Red Sport Packages and 1 Green base model....
I guess BMW didnt learn on the 335's with the oil coolers. The non-sport model doesn't have one....

Palbay, I dont think the Sport models have the oil coolers.
Most dealerships are getting one green and one red.

To be honest, im not sure. The X6 isnt my line, but i do know they were getting all the parts in for production on the 50i. Someone said it was gonna be a standard feature. Havent seen actual documentation to say YES though. Will let you know if i find out.

Have you happened to hear anything further regarding production dates for the 50i? My dealer seemed to think that it was not going to start production until September. I sure hope it is sooner.

i am not even sure. Because one day, they are saying it will be June, then the next day, they are saying any day now. Last i was told, it was going to start in may, and dealers would get demo's late part of summer. All of the engines and options are coming in heavily on a daily basis, so it should be soon!

The way they (supposedly) minimize turbo lag is quite clever. At low RPMs, if you open the throttle suddenly, the ECU injects fuel but doesn't fire it. When the piston is part way down on its power stroke, the ECU injects a little more fuel, ignites that, and that fuel in turn ignites the fuel that was injected earlier. The computer also opens the exhaust valve early, the effect being that still-burning, still-expanding gases leave the combustion chamber and enter the turbo, which is mounted very close to the exhaust valves. This expanding gas "bumps" the turbo and is supposed to spin it up to speed very quickly. Combined with the fact that there are two small turbos rather than one big one, this is, in theory, supposed to result in negligible turbo lag. BMW's design goal was for turbo lag never to be evident to the driver. They obviously missed this goal, as several testers remarked on the V8's lag when compared to the six in the 35i. I am optimistic that BMW's engineers will improve the situation, but it may take a while. If the problem relates to the amount of fuel injected or the timing of the spark, it is curable by software alone. But if it involves valve timing, it may be harder to correct. I imagine there will be one or two software releases during the engine's first year on the market. Those of us early birds in 50i's may have to go back to the dealer a couple of times before driveability is what it should be. If it means I get my car in August with turbo lag or I wait until November to get it without, I'll take the lag!
