The classic car market is bonkers. It has to be an asset bubble caused by cheap finance. As soon as we hit any kind of recession or interest rates go up then it will crash.
It's like a Ponzi scheme... only reason to pu that is because you think they'll be some other mug along who will pay even more.

Old performance cars are a bit of an odd one. By today's standards they're not "performance" and a Golf R32 would kick its arse.

It's an RS500 yes but it's mental. I'd expect an RS200 for that money.

Indeed, But they had so much turbo lag the Golf would have been halfway there before it got going.

It's a dealers own car, the cynic in me wonders whether it's really for sale or whether they are just marketing it to get a few petrol heads to look at their site and what else they are selling...

If so it seems to be working...

I don't get fast Fords or the classic Ford market in general, mainly hum drum massed produced cars at the time and the passing of time has done nothing to add to their appeal.

Sierra Cosworth looked awful then and looks worse now, look at the side profile of that RS500 the rear looks like it's halfway through a hearse conversion but they stopped and put silly wing on the back, fecking awful!

But ETTO.

Indeed. I'm trying to remember what the differences were on the road versions over the regular Cossie.

Bigger turbo
Second fuel rail and injectors
Wheels
Lip spoiler and decal on the bootlid

What have I missed?

Mods to the 4wd system, changing the torque split.

those that didnt sample them first time round proberly wont see the appeal.
that one is modified a bit which to me would reduce the value,as the top money is always with std cars.
classic cars in general do seem to be at an all tlime high and with having 2 in the garage do you cash in now or hang on,looking like a good pension scheme if it stays like this but could go all ponzi

It's what they are asking for it - doesn't mean they will get it

Might be just having a punt

IMHO there not many around esp with it being A 500 its in good condition presume never crashed stolen etc. But it's modded a lot mileage is higher than one would want.

Think he's trying to appeal to the reminiscent era but personally would want a more standard car for a lot less

Indeed. I have witnessed the spectacular crash and recovery of the classic car market at least once in my lifetime (50 next month). Seems to occur once per generation so if you don't cash in now you (or your inheritors) can always catch the market again in 25 years time.

According to Wikipedia.......

Mike Moreton was head of the team that planned to develop an evolution edition aimed at making the car unbeatable on the race tracks. In March 1987, Aston Martin Tickford was signed for the job of converting the 500 cars.

The Cosworth RS500 was announced in July 1987 and was homologated in August 1987.

The main difference to the Sierra three-door Cosworth was the uprated Cosworth competition engine. Its new features were:

The engine had a thicker walled cylinder block to cope with the rigours of the track
A larger Garrett T04 turbocharger
A larger air-air intercooler
A second set of four fuel injectors and a second fuel rail (unused in the roadgoing version)
An uprated fuel pump
A reworked induction system to allow higher power outputs to be realised
An uprated oil and cooling system
The rear semi-trailing arm beam had extended but unused mounting points

The RS500 also had minor external cosmetic differences to its parent the Sierra three-door Cosworth:

The rear tail gate had a lower spoiler in addition to the upper "whale tail", which had an added lip
Discreet RS500 badges on the rear tail gate and front wings
A redesigned front bumper and spoiler to aid cooling and air flow, including the removal of the fog lamps and their replacement with intake grilles to supplement brake cooling

Exactly 500 RS500s were produced, all of them RHD for sale in the UK only - the biggest market for this kind of Ford car. It was originally intended that all 500 would be black, but in practice 56 white and 52 moonstone blue cars were produced .
