Fumes inside the car

Looking for a bit of advice here, 2 weeks ago my car went in for another steering rack. I got a call to say that a link pipe at the dpf was damaged and they would also replace the dpf under warranty. Picked up the car all was fine but after a few days I started to notice the smell off fumes inside and it got worse and worse to the point where I couldn't turn on the climate control without the car filling with fumes, it was even worse sitting in traffic. So I called yesterday and they told me to bring it in today, they've just called to say it needs replacement clamp and gasket which has been ordered and will arrive tomorrow. They are saying it's a fairly big job to replace. They are telling me the clamp has failed. So my question is do I just let this go and accept the repair or should I go for more, we have a 3 week old baby and a 2 year old, who have both been in the car for extended periods with me. In hindsight I have had headaches and felt a bit shit over last few weeks but put that down to the new arrival.
They rejected a warranty claim on my brake judder as the discs had been replaced by previous owner and were not genuine. Do you think I could use this fume issue as some kind of bartering tool to get them to perhaps look at my brake problem or at least discount me on fitting genuine discs pads?

Honestly, in my opinion, probably not.

The dealership isn't going to worry too much about being sued for something like this. Maybe in a America they'd bend over backwards.

However, if you can prove, or at least suggest, some neglect somewhere, perhaps you could threaten something. You need to get something in writing about the fault and what caused it if you are worried about family health. I'd be pretty angry about it, but not sure I'd but not sure I'd have the energy to get anywhere with it.

There isn't any noticeable difference in the way the kids have been over last few weeks, just wondered if I could use this as a bartering tool

You could, but for bartering purposes their needs to be some kind of consequence to the dealer that the dealer can see. In this case, I'm not sure they will see anything.

Worth trying though, you might get lucky.

After reading this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-39339063) and seeing your thread, I would not be happy with fumes coming into my car after a "repair" by the dealer.

I would definitely raise it with them, possibly not with direct reference to the brake issue but in the hope they realize the seriousness of the issues and give you some sort of freebie or consolation!

Beat me to it! I completely agree with you! If it was me and fumes in the car with the little ones I'd be demanding a courtesy car untill they fix the problem especially if it was in warranty!
