Chrome exhaust tips turning blue.

I try to polish the black soot from the chrome exhaust tips and noticed the right side is turning blue ( heat) but not the left side. I have tracked the car several times, but was surprised that the chrome would blue so easily. Has anyone else noticed this, or do I have a unique issue:

I had the same problem. After just 2000 miles the tips all had permanent stains. I just had them powder coated matte black. No more worries.

The blue tint is not a stain. When steel reaches a certain temperature, the colour property changes. Golf guys use a torch on their putters to create this unique finish. Same as those tips with the blue flame finish. Some have had success with CLR and Naval Jelly, if they both fail, bead/sand blast it. If it was me, I'd keep it, looks great IMO.

People pay good money to buy tips that look like that. It's a natural process due to the high temps - it's a similar effect to patina, that develops in silver over time.

Love the natural bluing that occurs, but my main issue would be the fact that the factory exhaust is biased towards the passengers side, so the effect is only/mainly happening there...

Swap them once you get the desired colour.

Back in the day I had to polish my motorcycle exhaust to remove it. It's a result of too much heat.

Google this if you want to polish it out...

how to remove bluing from motorcycle exhaust pipes

For those that swap tips are Cyba tips still a fit? I saw on the F8X forums guys went with these and the slightly larger tips looked nice.
