Msport brakes question

Im trying to replace the rear brake dust shields. Seems like the rear hubs and drum brake assembly needs to be come off completely in order for me to replace the oem dust shield to the bigger dust shield that goes with the big rotors / brake kit. Is there any other way to get the dust shield replaced ?

When I did my BBK I noticed this and couldn't be bothered to put the new shields on so cut away the bit that was stopping the caliper going on and bent the bits that touched the disc, the brakes have been fine ever since.

ISTAD Rheingold seems to agree.

Go to page 88 and then page 79 of the attached ISTAD Rheingold Brake System documents.

That's because you are a 320d. He has a 435i and a bigger dust shield, he wont even need to cut them at all to fit the 2 piston rear brembos. I had zero issues fitting the calipers on my 335i m sport.

FWIW if I was in your position, I would have cut the shields as well. Pressing out the rear hubs is no fun. Did it once on a 335xi for a Qaife LSD swap and it took a hydraulic press and 14,000 tons to get them to come loose. Never doing it again...no thanks.

What were the issues? The calipers should have cleared your OEM shields with zero problems as mine did. Refer to pics on my install. I tossed the black dust shields in the recycling bin.

Hi,
You can just cur out a piece from the shields like I did here (pics 8-10):

He wont need to, he has a 435i and his stock rear shields will clear the brembo M performance calipers.

But that's a good job cutting the shield so you don't have to remove hub. You went to 335i m sport calipers, 340mm front and 330 mm rear correct?

Exactly- I didn't notice he has a 435i- its rear shields for 330mm will clear the 345mm with no issues.

I went first to 330mm with M135i/M235i shields for future mods (as 320i takes the complete rear brake bits from these F20-22).
And the upgrade to 345mm rears became in just 1000km, so that shields were a proper decision.)
