Ceramic controls

Curious why I never see anyone's configuration include ceramic controls. What is everyone's view? I read a little about them and chose them but don't have my G30 yet (expecting by end of this month).

JUST took delivery of my 540ix a few hours ago. I spec'd the ceramic controls. I am glad I did. Yes, they are way over priced, but they look and feel amazing. Very unique. I'm glad I got them.

I thought to have it added but price and black control put me off , I prefer aluminum look not something that's too dark .Sure , it's a cool feature

Pics from 7 series, I reckon they are the same as for 5 series.

In my understanding, ceramic controls include :
In the front : Volume control, 2 AC controls, iDrive control, P button on the shifter
In the rear : 2 AC controls (along with 4 zones AC)

I love the way the ceramic controls looks, not felt them. I resisted when I spec'd my car though..

I know the feeling, kept adding stuff as its only a extra xy per month, but it soon adds up and you have to draw the line somewhere

I am about to finalize my order.

At first my options list was quite long however as soon as i saw the quote i started crossing off some of the options

And ceramic controls was one of the first options i deleted.
It is a very nice touch and i like it but not so much that i can justify paying 1,744 Euro for it (tax is awfully high here)

I would have certainly ticked the box if it was around €500 though.

UK list price is 420 pounds (495 eur), more than triple the price in Turkey ?

Yes, unfortunately.
That is for engines over 2.0 liter.
It's less dramatic for smaller engines (but still too high)

I had them on my 550, I can tell you one thing, they get hot as hell if you live in a sunny climate. I didn't get them on my 540 and think it looks better as the silver knobs tie better with the silver trim. I probably would have ordered them if not $600 option (as they looked nice on my 550 and came with exec pack) but in hindsight I'm glad I didn't.

I have them on my current X5 F15, but i didn't spec'd them on my current G30 order : it looks nice at first, but now I got used to them so much that I don't really notice them. On the G30 it doesn't even add much on the gearbox controller, and you'll still get other parts in aluminium..
When I see pictures of them on 7 series, it is even worse because you get a mix of this dark ceramic + aluminium : too much different grey shades there.

Instead of ceramic, I decided to go for piano black trims : the interior will be exclusively black and aluminium for the contrast, nothing else.

I have ceramic controls on 2 of my BMWs but not on my 4 series because they weren't an available option for it. When I drive my 4 and touch the idrive, temp or radio , I am always surprised by how cheap and rough the feel is. Ceramic looks really nice, but it's much more of a "touch thing", they feel so much smoother and nicer. They do get hot like one poster said, but so do the regular knobs in the 4. If they are available in the model I buy, I'll always spring the extra $ for them.
