What SSK are you using?

I am looking for an SSK for my 1M. I had the BMW Performance SSK in my N54 135i and it was one of the best SSK's i have ever had so I am looking for something similar.

So far I have looked at the Rogue Engineering and UUC kits but open to other brands, it would be great to get any experience you have using one in your 1M.

Why are you considering a short shift kit? You may want to start with the clutch delay value before you attempt to shorten the throw length. A SSK without the CDV may lead to premature clutch wear.

CDV first, clutch stop too. One is super cheap the other free.

I snagged a UUC when they got super cheap for about 45 minutes one day (I think someone made a mistake!!) and I don't regret it.

It is a very nicely made product.

Mine is on an N55 135i though so YMMV but I am sure it is the same fine quality.

I would consider the UCP (Ultimate Clutch Pedal) and remove the small restrictor in the CDV. Had a clutch stop and removed it, that it was pointless seeing the engagement is near the end of the stroke.

I have the BMW Performance SSK in my 135i and LOVE it too. I realize you have a 1M. BMW no longer sells the SSK(135i), but they do still sell the SSK for the 128i. You only really need the shift lever & and a new plastic bearing.

In my e39 540i 6speed, I have an e60 550i shift lever. And believe it or not I like that shifter even better than my Perf SSK in my 135i. You could order the e60 shift lever - but you will need to bend it a little bit to have the shift lever fall closer to your hand. I think it would be worth the effort. Just use some sockets in a vise and bend the lever. There are plenty of YT videos on how to do that.

CDV delete is also a MUST do!!

Good Luck,
Dackel

Ordered the 128i SSK Lever, bearing/bushing, and a couple clips for my N55 135i.
Even that lever shows discontinued on a bunch of sites, but not where I found it.
Hopefully all will work out.
(e60 550i lever was $20 more. Plus, what if I bend it wrong?)
Family on vacation next week, while I've got to go to work. So should have a free evening to install.

Sorry - not for 1M. But this is the closest thread I could find, and is directly related to Dackel's post above.

Clutch stop on the E46 or E92 is simple and effective by changing to an elevator bolt. Anyone solve the Clutch stop for the 1M without clamping to the clutch pedal? I would like to shorten by 1-1.5"

Going to revisit this since 25110434217 is EOL.

I *think* the F20/F22/F87 N55 and B58 cars use the same linkage. Has anyone tried a shifter from those?
From a quick look on realoem...
M140i/M240i: 25117596703
M135i/M235i/M2: 25112284894

Apparently the F2x N55 part is the same as F8x M3/4.

Question is what are the throws like in these cars and what comes with M140i Performance Edition (they get a boot and knob for sure).

I got Auto Solutions to make their first 1M SSK. I've had it in the car 6 months and it's brilliant.

I was interested in the a SSK for my 135i. I called up bmw and they could not find a part number. From your post it sounds like they do not sell it at all for the 135. Is that true?

The Performance SSK is no longer available for the N54.

Your best bet would be to try the Performance shifter for a 128i/328i... but some bending of the lever might be needed. I don't know for sure, but I suspect some bending might be needed.

Like I said in a previous post... I have an e60 550i shift lever installed on my e39 540i... and it is really very nice. I prefer over my 135i Perf shifter! And I was in LOVE with that shifter until I put the e60 shift lever in my e39 540i. A forum member tjswarbrick (in another shifter thread) also took my advice and installed the e60 lever in his 135i. It took some "tweaking" but it worked.

The 1M and the N55 cars have the same trans. The 1M trans internals are slightly stronger. But the shift lever is the same.

I think you could use the 128i Performance shifter and have a really awesome short shifter. Like I said you might have to bend the shift lever - but since no one has really done it... you just have to experiment a little bit. It's pretty easy to bend the lever with some deep 1/2" sockets and using a vise. Others have posted pics of how they have done it.

Good Luck,
Dackel

I am guessing no. The 1M has the N55 135i gearbox

Off topic; oddly the hardware was 100% equal, M engineers only had the 1M version certified up to 500Nm by supplier Gertrac. M division themselves supplied the testresults to support that certification. (Ref Jurgen Schwenker, Okt 2011).

I should not have said "stronger". I meant of a different design/quality. Yes, Eeghie you are correct about the 1M trans having a higher torque rating - when in fact it's basically the same trans. Same goes for the 1M's clutch Nm rating. Same part with a higher Nm rating.

I thought that the 1M had synchro cones, made from carbon fiber or some other low friction material. The trans were quite similar but not the same - as I recall.

Maybe this was just some M propaganda. ?

It might be close, since its for a 330i and 130i. But you might still have to "tweek" it into shape to fit/shift correctly. You will know once you have it installed and you can see where the shift gates are. Then just use a vise and some deep sockets to bend the lever how you need it. It's not that hard to do.
