Question Steering Wheel Calibration

I got my car back from the dealer after getting the wastegate actuators replaced, and I notice that my steering wheel is turned a bit when I'm going in a straight line.

Since our steering is electronic, then nothing needs to be physically aligned. The steering just needs to be calibrated and centered.
My Volkswagen had a calibration that could be done by the user. It was something like:

-Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left
-Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right
-Turn it to the middle
-Drive straight for 50 feet
-etc, etc.

You get the idea.
Has anyone heard of anything to do to calibrate the wheel?
Any BMW techs out there that are willing to share some secrets?

I didnt know our steering was electronic, maybe not a 330i,

but I thought the 335i was hydraulic and the 328i was electronic?
Maybe I have it backwards.

Same for 135i and 128i?
Im pretty sure the 135i is hydraulic and 129i is electronic, but I could
be wrong

I put the complete stock exhaust system back on.
The only thing that was not stock was the intercooler and the brakes.
I talked to the Service Supervisor before about my IC and the warranty, and he said this, "A better IC will help your car run cooler and more efficient; I don't see anything wrong with that."

Nothing was said. All is good.
My wastegates were chattering due to the actuators not pulling the wastegate back enough.
BMW replaced the actuators and it's all good.

The wastegate actuators are on back order though so if you have this problem, get it ordered asap.

Back on topic...
How do I fix the steering?

sorry for the OT before.

I also had to do an alignment on my car after coilover install. The wheel was cocked a little to the side.

I would say take it back to the dealership and have them correct it.

Craig,

are you reffering to the steering wheel position sensor? Usually if your steering wheel is turned and your car is goign straight it will throw a orange ABS light. If so you have to hook up a scanner and align the car.... otherwise align the car and the light will go away after XXX amount of driving..

When I first got my 335i, I let it break in, then my steering wheel was off center, so they did some sort of manual adjustment and did alignment under warranty, steering has been dead on ever since, only issue I have now is that the run flats don't stay balanced very long, which is probably our shitty roads!

Alright guys, Thanks.
When I put my exhaust back on, I'll see if there's anything to adjust.

Our steering is mechanical with hydraulic assist. If the wheel is not degreed properly you need an alignment.

More importantly was it straight before you took it in for service? I don't think they would need to remove any of the steering for the wastegate repair but, you never know. Otherwise they may have hit a curb or something with your car to knock the alignment out.

Our steering wheels are in no way electronic.

The steering column and shaft is clearly visible. It is constructed of forged metals. The steering system is hydraulic.

If you have active steering, the situation is different.

Wow! And all this time I was thinking that our steering was electric.

They did have to loosen the steering for the wastegate fix because they need to take off the exhaust. In order to take off the exhaust they needed to loosen the steering. Trust me; I've installed the DPs plenty of times.

Anyway, I'm going to install the catless DPs again tomorrow so I'll take a look at everything and make sure everything's secure.

As far as I know the 328i and 128i both have electric steering, or maybe just the 128i ( I know it has electric steering)

They might have electric assist but, I promise you the actual steering is mechanical.

exactly, they have to loosen and move the steering rack I believe it is to get clearance for the DP's. They cant get to the wastegates w/ out removing the DP's. Moving the rack must have thrown something off. I would either take it to them to fix, or reinstall your catless DP's and have it aligned at a shop you trust.
