Poor G30 Comparo Showing (C&D)
Recently received my May Car & Driver where they conducted a comparo between:
The final Tally:
"BMW absolutely aced the luxury part of this assignment. Where the 540 gave up ground was primarily in chassis tuning and steering feel. + - is that a v12 under the hood? Rolls spec leathers and interior comfort (Nappa) - The steering and chasis are far too numb Verdict: A great luxury sedan from the brand whose reputation was built on sports sedans." Not a good showing for a brand new generation of vehicle. That A6 tested was a 2017, but I don't believe their new generation soon to hit the market. Sorry no link to C&D - I did not find the link on their site yet.

"+ Next level refinement and comfort, a near match for the Cadillac's sportiness, just the right amount of attitude. - Next level as tested price, red seatbelts, occasional whacks from the tires (20's) Verdict: The best balance of sportiness and luxury in the segment."

It's a priority thing. When C/D places the CTS in 2nd, obviously they are not looking for the best all around luxury performance sedan. Ride and handling matter, but so do interior design, fit and finish, technology, comfort, efficiency, depreciation, trunk space, value (ahem, Mercedes), and back seat space.

So that is their opinion...I have mine and you have yours.
Just test drive them and pick the one you like - let the authors of C&D do the same and let them buy the MB if they prefer it. Who knows, if you actually drive them all you might also prefer the MB - what a shock that would be Reviews are good to perhaps learn something about a car's particulars, but in the end it is only your opinion that counts. People should not let reviews dictate their own opinion; just test drive the cars you think you might like. That's the way I think about it. |

C&D has gone overboard.
There is no way in hell the E-class is a better compromise between sport and luxury than the Bimmer. And the CTS? Nobody even buys them, they struggle to move more than 700 per month and they sit on dealer lots for 7 months. There is no way the Caddy is better than the Bimmer in any category. This magazine has lost all credibility. Every journalist in Europe adores this new 5-series and it's repeatedly called the best overall vehicle in its class. Fact is that 2017 is not 1997! Tech is huge now and China dictates automotive engineering more than any other market in the world. The 5er is excellent for it is. The C&D editors aren't using their own money to buy and live with these cars, so they don't know what they're talking about. Now the 3-series? That's fair game to go after and houng. |

As much as I like their test reviews and comparisons this test is totally miserable ,I know you can't please everyone when releasing a new product but G30 is the best 5 Series ever made and the best car in its class .
Sorry, Car and Driver your test review don't reflect truth in this test you hit the stone to crack your hammer instead of hitting the nail

Scans of the article here This is a bad review, I noted in this posting that based upon base price they used the wrong cars, and loaded up "light" versions vs more performance oriented. They should of used the performance versions of the other cars. Also keep in mind the tires across this group are well all over, some really suck, others are quite good. E43 AMG Base price: 72,400 M550i Base price: 72,100 S6 Base price: 70,900 CTS V Sport Premium Base: 71,790 The Jag is the outliner... This is a flawed review, not saying the outcome would of went to BMW. But the odds are high the rankings would of changed a bit. Again the AMG version of the E-Class is AMG light, just as the S, M and V sport are all light version of the higher full on performance versions.
