Coolant/Oil Temp DIY

I got fed up with this issue....no oil/coolant temp on track without all that secret code crap once I stop. Or I could block my vents for $500-$1000, which seemed like overkill for my limited needs. So, I looked at apps and came across FourStroke for free plus the $3.99 upgrade! Installed the app in a minute, plugged in an OBD2 reader ($20 Amazon same day) and bam :

Nice find. I see you can have 6 gauges up at a time also.
Thanks for sharing

Does this show both coolant and oil? Do you leave your phone in a mount during a session to keep an eye on it?

You have a choice of one gauge or six....fully programmable....I emailed asking them to give us more options. I plan on using my iPhone mount on track....will test at Sebring next weekend and report back.

Anything to report? Were the gauges helpful? Any limp mode issues?

Can anyone confirm that there is actually an oil temp sender? It is not uncommon for the oil temp to be a calculated number rather than a measured one.

Now that I know to fill the tank once it hits 1/4 I have no more limp mode issues! The OBD2 scanner and app worked great. I did not mount my phone since the temps seemed good, so I would just pull out my phone at pit in to read water and oil temps.....no issues. This weekend is Road Atlanta and it should be a lot hotter so I may mount it so I can get real time temps. It's ridiculous that I have to use my IPhone and a four dollar app to monitor basic engine functions on a high end "track car"....maybe the CL will fix that!

These are M Performance Analyzer Core Data screens shots.

They were taken after the dash temperature gauge reached OK and the arrow was in the middle and the car is idling.

I would be nice if they let you customize a screen to show a couple of these gauges at one time, like EL Ban shows.

The coolant and water temp are close to each other, which when I thought about it makes sense. BTW, I have seen them closer together too.

Good info, I always wondered if the water temp got up to temp first and oil was still pretty low. That is the case in my GT3 which has gauges for both. Water will get to 170 in about 3 mins and oil take 7-10 mins to get up to temp.

Is this displayed on your phone or device, or on the iDrive?

Thanks, Gary

These were screen shots of my iPhone (M Performance Analyzer app).

As a side note, I have Apple CarPlay. When I screen shot the phone it recorded two shots one of the iPhone and one of the iDrive screen which at the time was the CarPlay home screen w/the app icons. Sort of neat but also annoying b/c I had to delete all the CarPlay screen shots.
