Brake squeak

Purchased this car 5 months ago with 33k on the clock. IIRC, the BMW PPI reported 8mm on the front pads and I've put 2k on them since. I suspect they are the same pads that shipped from factory. Within the last week I noticed a fairly loud squeak that has developed on initial braking.

I suspect I just need new pads - does 35k sound normal for the OEM fronts?

I've never had BMW brakes before but I guess I was expecting the sensor to warn me before I got to the squeaker but that appears to not be happening. Does the sensor on these brakes do any good?

Off to shop for pads (and probably some sportier rotors to look at through the 313m rims).
