New car ideas
Evening all, having had my E92 330d M Sport for nearly 2 years and put over 40k on it I'll soon be parting ways with it.
Now I'll be spending no more than £20k on my next purchase which I'll probably keep for years. I've spent the last 2 moths going round in circles over what to get, some of the short list are; Range Rover sport 3.0 '10' onwards E92 M3 LCI DCT (a little over budget) Audi S5 '12' onwards (again a tad over budget) Early 997 911 Late 996 911 Cayman's Audi S3 '13' onwards E92 LCI 335i/d (I can't really have another E9x as I've already had 2) F3 335d M sport. And now I'm back to looking at M135's or 640d M sport's, I know they are very different cars but they are very similar in price and straight line performance. I'm about to change jobs so I'm not sure on yearly mileage but I'd of guessed somewhere around 15-20k, we currently have no children and aren't planning to for another few years so rear seats aren't an issue. A coupe of pro and cons I can see for the M135i, very quick & capable car against abit of a young lads car (I'm 30) could possibly have issues from being thrashed all of its life & the mrs already has a new Polo GTI so do we need a second hot hatch. The 640d's pros and cons amazing GT car, effortlessly quick fairly decent fuel economy and all the toys against it possibly being a bit of a barge, people will think it's my dads car. So if anyone has owned either or both and could share their experiences with them that would be great. Cheers |

I considered a 6 series for my daily but ruled it out due to its shear size, its as long as our F11 520d and slightly wider which would cause problems where I park when at work and I wanted something smaller that I can zip around in so went for a M140i. I don't do many miles and wanted a manual petrol car so a 4 series was also an option, specifically the 428i.
Now I've got the M140i I love it, the engine is silky smooth and has great performance, around town I also get better mpg then the GT86 it replaced. The M135/140 are not full on focussed hot hatches like the Focus RS and Type R, they are more GT with a fun side to them. |

I drove a 640d yesterday in the gran coupe guise
Although super comfy and effortless to drive, when you are inside it dont feel like a barge But once you park up and look at the size it is off putting I would deffo get one if i was doing loads of motorway trips as it would certainly help munch those miles with style and class |

I was about to go for a M135i but to me, it just did not feel special enough.
The 6er is nice (probably the best looking of the current BMWs both in coupe and Gran coupe form), but as you say, it's a bit for the elder gentlemen in in my opinion (coming from someone who had a E65 7er in his late 20's!). Why not another E92? 335i LCI still looks fresh in my eyes although the interior is a little dated.

Stay away from those 6 series barges test drive the cayman or 911 against that 6er and you will thank me every time you drive down a twisty B or even c road. Cheers |

You have to try a 911 at some point. If you go for a phase one make sure its had that famed engine part that breaks all the time done prior.

So unfortunately the E92 decided to become a little unwell so I've had to trade it in fairly quickly which resulted in e only having £16,500 for the new one including the E92. So after a frantic few days I got a 2011 F10 535d M sport, it's got quite a few extras and but of beast. I've only had it 4 days so the jury is still out but first impressions are that it's a proper limo and would be an ultra GT car but it is very different to the E92 and it's not something that steers particularly good or handle but I'm sure I'll ge use to that.
