M3 Arm Problem

Hi all,

Just fitted the M3 front arms to my E91 335d.

I've tightened everything up, dropped it onto axle stands at the hub so the ball joints are under load then tightened the subframe bushes right up.

On starting the engine I get DTC and flat tyre warning lights.

When I start driving there is huge judder at lowish speeds (25mph), a grinding noise from the steering when turning at low speeds and it just doesn't feel right at all!

I can't see what the problem could be!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

James

Steering geometry will be way out now. You will need to get a geo done

And that would cause all those problems? I can't see anything glaringly obvious.

It's only 4 bolts either side at the end of the day??

Why would the DTC and flat tyre warning come on though?

upper & lower m3 control arms will greatly alter the toe & give you more negative camber. I think the DTC lighting up is due to the altered toe.

Maybe as tmps measures air pressure by individual tyre rotational speeds & other info outside the tyre maybe due to being out of alignment, but I'm only guessing
Take it somewhere & get the alignment checked, as to what specs you'd get it set up to...

Yes same happened to me. Car feels like a death trap to drive after the arms go on because the alignment is out. The vibration from bumps for some reason felt bone shattering as well.

Reset TPMS to get the wheel speed sensors to work with the new geometry.

Once aligned the car feels great and the firmness on bumps actually feels just like stock arms to me again.

My fog light really was out. The other codes are all wheel speed sensor related. The dsc is on the same module as FTM.

Deffo due to the swap. Mine was an absolute horror to drive until aligned. Took me 45mins to drive 8miles.

Juddering was due to a ball joint bolt I hadn't tightened up. Everything else appears to be down to alignment.

Put it in for alignment but front steering arms were seized and rear toe arms seized so alignment couldn't be done!

Replaced the steering arms and track rod ends up front so alignment should be fine now. But now I can't get the toe arm adjustment bolts off, they're seized solid! Any ideas?

Remind me, does the toe bolt go in to a captive nut, or not?
If not, and you've managed to get the nut off, then a bit of heat, a drift (bit of metal bar) and a lump hammer normally does the trick.

Eccentric bolt with a self locking collar nut - access to the nut is tricky though

Hi all,

Both rear tyres are dead! The garage aligned it as 'low ride 19" alloys' on an e91 touring.

They are saying the alignment is the same for all 3 series??

What should the specs be? What should I have asked for when I went in for alignment?

Thanks

Have replied to your PM buddy.

You need some adjustable rear toe arms I think as the toe must have been massively out.

The print out from the alignment place says rear toe is at 0.09 and 0.10.

Is that out?

0.09 is ok. What is your rear camber?

Those are good too. Strange that tyres have gone so quickly?
