"Brake System: Drive Moderately" After Pad Change

A couple weeks ago I got a message on iDrive that my rear pads would need to be changed in about 1,000 miles. I ordered some StopTech pads online, and they arrived yesterday. Today I went ahead and put them on, and when I got done I went to reset the warning message. When I did this, my car gave me the ol' "Brake System: Drive Moderately" message. I took the car out for a drive (took it up to around 55 mph), and it stops fine. I'm thinking (hoping/praying) that it's because I replaced the pads but not the pad wear sensor, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could confirm this. I did a search here, but I couldn't find anything. Then again, while I'm generally handy with my cars, my tech/search skills are not as good.

TIA!

You may have damaged the pad sensor when re-installing it.

Maybe the CBS is asking that you drive moderately since the pads are new until a break in period is satisfied?

I forgot to mention - I wasn't actually able to reset the brake replacement warning/notice. So I'm guessing it's not that.

Check the wear sensor. At about 1000 miles left, it should've been worn down.

+1 those wear sensors aren't just a dummy wire. They are progressive. Just because you didn't have that one all the way through and reset the light on the dash doesn't mean it'll all work. If you reset the prompt on the dash in the car doesn't like the resistance in the electrical circuit. Unless I've misunderstood I would say replace the part wear sensor

Indeed everyone was correct - it was the wear sensor. I ordered a new one and installed it this evening after work, and the Vehicle Check is reading all clear now.

Thanks, everyone!

You need to replace the pad sensors when you replace the pads, not just if they become damaged.
