N57 remapping advice

Hi all,

I have a 03/2010 325d M Sport Auto/paddles and would like some advice on remapping.

First of, the car has 167,000 miles on her. I'm not overly looking for it to be the fastest car in the world but some more like for the odd blast wouldn't go a miss.

The car has sat on the motorway most of its life (did the bulk of its miles in 3 years averaging 33,000 miles a year during this time) and I believe to be completely standard.

I'm going to service her, coolant, engine oil, filters etc. I am also going to service the gearbox.

I'm looking for people who have mapped this engine or own a mapped car with this engine for some advise please

Thanks

Got the same engine, will be interesting how much other users have managed to get out of their 325d N57 and who did it for them

I've got a 2008 325D, so the older engine. Was given a stage 1 map the outer week, don't know the output, but it's definitely quicker!! Also mapped the gearbox and that's worth it as well.

Mine has 110k on it

My mate has an N57 2010 325d Mapped by BW Chiptune who are highly reputable. Car was mapped to 310bhp with a dyno run for £450.

I see you're in Somerset - talk to Matt Reidy in Yeovil. He's remapped a number of my cars over the years - does a custom remap on his rollers so you see the before and after results and he was circa £300 for this a couple of year back. Well recommended.

Hi jamherber,

Thanks for the heads up. I actually live in Yeovil and to be honest, Performance3000 reputation is not the best. Not sure how affiliated this guy is with them but I see he works from there garage. Out of interest what cars did you have mapped? Thanks

Hi,

He is independent of the garage, just rents some space as far as I'm aware. Overs the years he's remapped our VX220 Turbo, Alfa Mito 155, Leon TDI (x2), Golf GTI Mk4, all with good results. He's very knowledgeable and good at what he does IMHO.

I have an N57 330d.

I had a before and after on a hub dyno so the figures differ slightly to a wheel dyno and read lower.

I ran 224whp before and and 290whp afterwards so a gain of 66bhp.

Applying that to stock figures of 242bhp gives around 308bhp.

I ran pretty much stock torque at 384 before up to 450 lb/ft after.

The car is much stronger after the map with significantly more torque further up the rev range.

Having had a few "plays" it's now quicker than a 435d on the move.

I have a 330d LCI, but it's a manual.

I wonder with 64k miles if the clutch will slip / give out with a map. Would be nice!

You would probably be fine with a moderately tuner map. Impossible to say with mileage without really inspecting the condition of the clutch. Best to take a visit to an actual tuner and explain what you want.

Did that solved the annoying lockup delay at light throtle?

When you set off from a junction; the gearbox almost slurs through the gears and is very slow to react and change up.

The car also feels like there's a lack of engagement between the gearbox and the engine.

This is due to the torque converter. In theory the lockup should be instant when setting off so should remove this issue.

I've just bought the Stage 2 map and will be flashing tomorrow so I'll post up my results.
